Insanity or P90X for overwieght, but fit Person?

February 1st 2010 Starting weight = 287
Current weight - 195

Completed p90x and Insanity and Insanity twice.
I now do the upgraded advanced workouts here an there as I have taken up weightlifting/bodybuilding.

Either or, but diet, exercise + rest in that order. Do whatever you have to, to get rid of any stress in life. Personally I'm on 50mg Zoloft + .5 mg Klonopin daily and never felt this good in my life. I'm 30 yrs old.

Anyone here that has seen me at an event or follows my Facebook knows I'm not bullshitting. I'm no weightloss expert but I shed nearly 100 pounds in a 10 month period.

When I started p90x I did pushups on my knees and was unable to complete a pullup. I do sets of 25 pushups, 200 daily, 7 days a week. I've been caught in the Walmart parking lot doing pushups. I've been seen at a movie theatre doing pushups while waiting in line. It's a lifestyle change. On a saturday I've completed 1,000 pushups and 300 pullups (various styles).

This all came in one year's time. The point is get motivated, and do whatever. Just make sure your "doing"

I am 6 foot and weight 205lbs. The problem is, I am all fat, with a big belly. I want to loose weight and build muscle. I have my meal plan down. Now for an exercise regement.

I do a fitness bootcamp a couple of times a week and run 3 miles a day 3 times a week. So cardio wise, I should be able to keep going.

Since I want to loose weight and tone my body, whch is better insanity or P90X? I am going for the olympic swimmer/ Tennis player type body, not big bulked out muscles.

Thanks

This might sound like a stupid answer, but if you're going for a swimmer/tennis type of body, why don't you PLAY tennis or go swimming? I haven't heard any body suggest this yet and those are both very good sports to build a functional healthy body. Other sports with lean and mean bodies are boxing, basketball, soccer etc.

The problem is with those workout tapes, is while they can be good for people, only a small % of people actually stick with them to see the results to the end.

The good thing about swimming or playing a sport is that its pretty fun to do and when it becomes a routine, you will be shedding pounds before you even know it, while learning some new skills, gaining a new hobby and having fun too. Killing a few birds with one stone in my book.

Jesus Christ Ruck, you are an animal. My man Ruck here is the definition of "Winning!" No doubt.

I bought P90X and a pull up bar, had a custom meal plan created by a nutritionist. In 5-7 days my journey will begin.

Crossfit will get you injured, I trained at 2 different CF gyms. Everyone getting injured. P90x is a sound program.

Crossfit is fun but I don't see the logic in rushing through a workout with overhead squats and Olympic lifts so you can beat someone's time.

Crossfit's awesome! @johnysc430 sure you can get hurt if you don't use proper technique. That's where a lot of gyms get it wrong, but if you use good technique you'll be alright.

I've been doing CF for a year and the best part of it for me is the community that's at a CF gym. They will help keep you inspired on days where you really don't want to do shit.

A proper diet - with enough raw organic foods is always the foundation.

I found the P90X to be especially helpful with the stretch and yoga segments. I always lifted weights and ran a few miles a day, but had no idea how bad my flexibility was lacking (prevents injury etc).

I love doing crossfit the gyms are great but it's not for everyone and 90% of the people I see training have bad form.

The thing is I'm super competitive and you don't think about form when you're trying to be the guy next to you.

i have done both...id say to go with p90x. This is because with p90 you will have weights along with the cardio workouts. Insanity is all cardio. After a month if you are really bad ass do insanity in the morning and p90 at night.

Either way no matter which one you chose you will be winning

you should do crossfit if you want to do something gay like p90x. otherwise be a real man and stick to bench, squat, deadlift, pull ups, cleans. cardio is for girls. you should be good once you can clean 225 if you weigh 205. try for a 200lb overhead press too.

Serious fucking lulz @ cardio is for girls.

So running a few miles a day while doing P90X will not hurt the muscle building process? If so, that would be perfect. I would like to continue running, but dont know how to fuel my body for the P90X and running. I am afraid my body will break down muscle if I do that.

I think that would be counterproductive IF you don't take in the proper nutients in the correct amounts, you will need tons of protein(preferably whey), glutamine, multivitamins, etc. If you don't feed your muscles properly while compounding exercises like that you will go into a catabolic (muscle burning) state. I'd alternate and not do all on the same day.

FUCK YES CrossFit. Not meaning to sound like some Clickbank stuff, but it seriously changed my life.

I was a fat fuck with asthma for my whole life and didn't lose weight until the end of high school...but because of college I gained 40 lbs. After college, I've been hitting my local CrossFit box consistently for about 8 months, and I've never felt better.

And it's true - a lot of it is because of the community. The people inspire you every day to do better. It sucked at first when old fucks were finishing before me and I was always last, but this got me to start eating cleaner (Paleo) and now I'm in the best shape of my life.

I highly suggest it.

why? i guess it's cool if you like losing muscle. i sometimes run a mile on off days or ride my bike, but that's it. still running an 8 1/2 min mile @ 235lbs and 30 years old.

Since when did running lose muscle?

I'm not talking about marathon running but running to lose excess weight is perfectly fine. And will not cause you to lose muscle.

An 8:30 mile is slow as fuck.

Something tells me you're trolling or you really know nothing about weight loss/muscle gain... You don't lose muscle or gain muscle from doing cardio... Where the hell did you hear that?

Also, where do you get off saying P90X is for pussies? That shit works better than any workout routine I've ever done.

I'm sorry, but that was just a stupid statement man.

well, i don't really give a shit if it's slow compared to someone who runs a lot. i'm a powerlifter, not a racer. when all you runner faggots are benching 350 and deadlifting 600lbs like me you can start telling me cardio doesn't cause strength loss. until then, you're the ones who don't know shit about strength.

Your weight is because of your diet.

You are 205 and you want to get down to 190. You could do that in 1 month by correcting your calorie excess and maintaining your current work out.

If you can't do a pull up you you need to lose alot more than 15lbs if you are not bulking. You are going to be mostly fat and little muscle.

Big Will Speaks the truth. Fix your diet Holmes. Get on a schedule. Then hit the iron.

"The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all
kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron
will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference
point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in
the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It
never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two
hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds." Henry Rollins
