Why bump a two month old thread?
Looks like I just did that too, oops.
Why bump a two month old thread?
I don't want to read this whole thread, but I'll give you my advice should you care to heed it.
Step 1: Read "You are what you eat" and follow it to a tee. If you are not vegetarian, feel free to add organic chicken, fish, and lean turkey anywhere in there. Reading the entire book is important, and it can change your life if you take it seriously.
Step 2: Start jogging long distances. Long sustained cardio, especially running, is great for your body and overall health in more ways than I can list on this page. Start small, get all stretched and hydrated and start running around a track, or something you can judge distance with. Run until you feel like you can't take another step - not until you're "tired of running". I like to say that the amount of work you put in AFTER you are tired, is what you really get out of a workout, and helps you push farther next time. Continue this 5 out of 7 days of the week, make it a habit. If you can do this, AND follow step 1, I guarantee you will lose 10-20 lbs in the first few months and feel like Obama felt on Monday.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...
Cheers
Serious fucking lulz @ cardio is for girls.
I am 6 foot and weight 205lbs. The problem is, I am all fat, with a big belly. I want to loose weight and build muscle. I have my meal plan down. Now for an exercise regement.
HIIT is insane, helped me lose 20 pounds so far. Down to 9% body fat and should be down to 7-8% by middle of June. Do you just use the elliptical or do you sometimes use the treadmill?I do HIIT on the elliptical trainer so it saves my knees. 2 minutes of warmup, then for the next 10 minutes I alternate - 1 minute of solid sprint, 1 minute of leisurely jog. Then 4 minutes of cooldown. I set the elliptical at level 11-12 so it adds resistance like doing hill training.
P90X should be arriving at my door in a day or two - I ordered it as my 37th Birthday present on Sunday. I've been overweight my entire adult life - including while I was in the Army. In fact I got "kicked out" of the Army for not having enough consecutive months of body fat % loss. While I wasn't in good or great shape at least I was in good enough shape to get laid back then. Nowadays nobody wants to lay a rumply fat 250-lb dude.
Can't wait to start bringing it!
you should do crossfit if you want to do something gay like p90x. otherwise be a real man and stick to bench, squat, deadlift, pull ups, cleans. cardio is for girls. you should be good once you can clean 225 if you weigh 205. try for a 200lb overhead press too.
If you want to look good naked (which seems to be your goal) you need to focus on a few simple things.
1) Lift weights. Lifting heavy and hard burns calories and builds muscle, which eats fat. Check out Riptoe's 5x5 workout. If you are doing heavy compound lifts you will be burning a ton of calories, trigger major increases in the amount of testosterone produced by your body, and you will become bigger stronger and faster.
2) Eat Clean. Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.
3) High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Focus on sprints: hill sprints, 200, 400, and 800 meter runs. If you really like distance running try to mix in sprints to your routine. For example, jog 4-5 blocks and then sprint 1. Think of the people you know who are long distance runners. 99% are either toothpicks or they are "skinny-fat". They can finish a marathon but they have a little paunch and some spindly legs. Now think about any sprinter you have seen or met. They are cut, fast, and typically have legs like tree trunks.
4) Rest. Your muscles don't grow when you're in the gym; they grow when you are resting and sleeping. Lift really fucking hard when you're at the gym, maybe do a few minutes of high intensity cardio such as working with heavy bag, sprints, etc. (because cardio after lifting is much more effective at burning fat that the other way around) and then take it easy for the rest of the day. Have a few protein shakes and dont worry about lifting in the morning and doing Insanity at night. That is a great way to overwork your body and see minimal gains as a result of your hard work.
If the army can't get you into shape, what makes you think Tony Horton and P90x will? lol
