lol I'm a US citizen living in the Philippines, and what you say is true ... cost of living here is so cheap that for a long while I was doing odds and ends programming for far cheaper than I'd ever consider if I were still in the US

I can confirm that filipinos don't work very hard. most are day-laborers. in my 4 years living here I have yet to meet one who was entrepreneurially minded or even cared about a career.

can't say anything about indians except that I'd not pay for anything unless it was a finished product
 
Filipinos for me (I might be biased since I am married to a filipina LOL)

I have worked with both Indian and Filipinos, Indians tend to be the better and more reliable article writers but when it goes to design etc I had better results with filipinos...

You can not generalize people by their nationality... "You get what you pay for" is my overall experience but you can find real gems both in India and the Phils, have found them ;)
 
Russian or Ukrainian

You'd better hire Russian or Ukrainian programmers. They are more responsible and professional. As of Indians or Filipinos I've heard much negative info about them.
 
I prefer Filipinos as opposed to Indians because they are more responsible. Indians often have "mountains" of excuses when they fail to deliver. Of course, I am not saying that Filipinos do not have that problem but it is more commonly seen among Indians

I just voted for Indians. When it comes to programming a good Indian firm kills any Philippino firm.

However, Philippinos (from my experience) generally have better communication skills. Their English is way better than Indians.

So for me: Indians for programming, Philippinos for cheap content writing.
 
can we please let this thread die :) we've already established that Indians who do reasonable quality work are not freelancing on the Internet - they work for corporations in India or they move to US, Europe, etc.

Never worked with an Indian developer but I think that you should get a Filipino developer. They are really good at what do. Just make sure you ask them if they'd have any questions because some of them are really just shy.

I'd have to agree with Uncle Tony here, the Filipinos most definitely have smaller junk, however that may be a flaw that works to their advantage.

I often find that on the design side, the Filipinos are much better and more creative, which is likely due to the fact that their inadequate junk size forces them to be creative and inventive during the throws of passion. You will get excellent designs, logos, colors etc.

On the other hand, I do think that Indians are better programmers, however you do eventually get what you pay for. So if you hire someone for $6/hour, then that is exactly the quality of work that you are going to get. Your product will be functional, but fucked up.

I'm a Filipino but I won't vote because I haven't tried looking for a developer so it would just be unfair if I cast my vote simply because of my race.

I'm a developer myself and I love doing stuffs for my own benefits.


I agree with someone here who has stated that most Filipinos are not entrepreneur oriented. There are few but they were a part of a minority and for most of the time, they enjoy life to the fullest. =)
 
Although I respect the hell out of Indians and Filipinos here, I still prefer Filipinos a.k.a. Pinoys are much better of their quality work than Indians. They were totally serious of their jobs or tasks, and also very cheap to outsource.
 
Anyone know the average hourly rate for Eastern European front-end coders with advanced-expert skills? I'm tired dealing with my Indian contractor that keeps making excuses for not delivering the job on time.
