Am I the only one who has always thought OS X was too cartoon-y and looked like it was made for a child? I can't take that shit seriously at all.

no, a lot of people think apple products are stupid because they are simple and "made for idiots". those people also think apple is all marketing and being cool.

But then all the real hackers and power users that I know use either osx or linux. And being honest, linux is not for 99% of people and their computing needs. I use linux, windows, and os x every single day, and if i could only have one it would definitely be a mac.

I thought for sure this was a joke thread... but there are people srsly debating this? (Unless we're chalk full of trolls here.)

My problem with Macs is they don't do anything that a $200 netbook with Linux can't...

(cue the rage)

well considering no $200 netbook has a 15" screen, you're already wrong.

and expecting most people to learn to use a package manager, or sudo configure, make, make install, is gonna frustrate the shit out of them. Let alone figure out printer drivers on linux.

People spend up to thousands of hours per year on their computers, its pretty silly to let $100 be the deciding factor.

Envy (Win), System76 (Linux), or MBP (Mac).

It really doesn't matter what you buy unless you are looking to do something really OS specific.

For noobs: Macbook Pro 13 inch.
Pros: Go with the PC.

I have an MBP and a PC (HP Envy 15). I love em both. Both are extremely useful but pick up the Macbook first. It's zero maintenance and easy to use, it will help you get organized and hassle free.

The HP Envy is a piece of crap, some of the buttons don't work, the trackpad is really shitty, changing the volume either doesn't work and kicks you out of full screen applications. I had to spend about an hour just going through 3rd party forums, downloading fixes and messing with the configurations. The battery life last less than an hour on a good day. However, 2 things make it better for IM: Windows 7 and its power. The Envy configuration that I have (Intel i7, 8gb ram) is key to be quick enough and run intensive applications. Both laptops cost the same and to get that configuration on a MacBook would cost you thousands more. Mac OSx isn't as effective in my book, but maybe that's because I grew up on Windows and know it better.

Mac is 10x better in my opinion.

Get a Mac Pro with 24GB of RAM, 4 monitors, and you can use a virtual windows on the mac.
That is if you have the money.

$100? I said $200, so you're saying there are Macbooks out there for $300? Sure looks like they start at $999 to me. And 1k for a 15" screen is nothing to brag about. My laptop: $450, 17" screen.

So really Mac users. Give me a real argument. And... go!
