I lasted a month. ;(

As a fellow R8 V8 owner, I have to say you were speeding. There's no such thing as a "55mph redline" as you claim. The only thing that there is, is a warning that will pop off if you instruct the bord computer to do so.

And seriously, as asked before, how did you manage to spin out the all wheel drive car ffs? I drive in northern europe, shitloads of ice, snow and rain - all year long. Maybe you should take a driver safety course before handling these machines.

It's cool that nobody wants to admit that they're speeding, but as usual, people will only tell the good side of the story.

On a side note, glad you're ok. Hope my baby stays unharmed for a long while.

I agree, sounds like that post has a lot of sarcasm as well. What I believe happened was as such. Coming down the highway, it has been raining all day long and the roads were quite slippery. Traveling with a decent bit of decline due to a slopping overpass. At first in the second lane, likely around 75 mph. He decided to downshift and made the grave mistake of switching lanes at the same time. Speed likely came in closer to 95/100 while switching lanes and then bam, left part of the car hits a gigantic patch of water and snaps the steering wheel to the right. He was probably driving with just one hand, so when the wheel snapped, he couldn't hold it in place with a single hand, and all was history from there.

That is likely more probable. But what do I know, I am just ROISHARE.

Glad your ok buddy. I know that stretch of road. Actually had something like that happen to me but I didn't end up hitting anything. Hit a pothole, heard a loud pop like a .22 and looked to my right to see my curtain airbag blew and seat airbag blew. Pretty expensive repair to say the least. Only thing that matters though is that you are ok in the end.

This morning I was traveling on the highway at around 4 am. I was simply trying to get in some early morning stunting. Throughout the last couple hours it had been raining quite a bit and water began to accumulate on the highway.

As I am driving in the fast lane at around 55 MPH, I end up hitting a gigantic pothole that was under a great bit of water. The instance my car hit that patch, all hell broke loose.

From that point my car made a 180% turn and crossed over the next two lanes before striking a light pole on my driver side door. During that impact, the side airbag was triggered and the glass on the driver's side shattered in my face. From that point the car angled itself just a bit and began flying down to the service road ass first. The car finally came to a stop as it pivoted itself above the guard rail.

Fortunately I have escaped without injury. I am feeling a bit sore in my left elbow, it could simply be because of the airbag spraining it somehow. I'll live.

As you can see, there are tire tracks in the grass from where I exited the highway. The service road is just behind me.

Look buddy, glad your ok. You seem like a good person, and to be only 21 years old and have this happen to you can be devastating but don't let it get ya too down. There's more to life, than just a nice car. As long as you have a good place to live, food to eat every day, businesses generating good money, and a decent amount of savings you'll be ok. BUT, next time be extremely careful.

Most importantly chap - stay at the top of Google.

(I guess you could throw in having a competitive edge just to make sure.)

Don't worry about the car - you're not hurt and you can afford another one anyway. All good.

55mph though? Seriously?

I don't understand the whole 55mph redline either .....lol

With AWD in a performance car, when in doubt put your foot to the floor and steer. When you let off the gas too quickly in a minor slide, you will lock up and oversteer into a spin.

That is actually not true. In many cars you can alter the governor with a flash. I have a valet tune that I put on my car when I take it to a body shop or anywhere someone I don't trust might drive it. Drops the rev limit down from 8,000 to 5,000 and hits boost cut at the load of about 70mph. It could go faster, but with no boost it will take a loooong ass time. You can cut off fuel on a naturally aspirated engine and pretty much pick your own speed limiter. I don't think he actually did that though, I think he is covering his bases because he is posting about an accident on the internet and doesn't want to admit wrongdoing.

I not really sure where you live but i live in Michigan and the pot holes are just terrible. i feel like every other month i hear someone getting hurt because of something so easy to fix. Im glad your ok and just remember that puddles are pot holes best friend. :liebe028:

Yall murikans haven't seen how potholes look on my side of the world. I bet you dont have pot holes like these in U S and A.

Wait wut? Cassius I'm guessing that like me you have spun more times than you can count out on the racetrack. I have to say that telling an untrained driver to floor it and steer is BAD advice; possibly Lethal. We (racers): Always Look Where We Want The Car To Go - And Not Where It Is Pointed. This fact is one of the MAIN reasons why we can drive sideways while whistling a merry tune.

He lost that car the instant he looked where it was pointing; Instead of keeping his gaze focused on Where he wanted it to go.

Furthermore, its conceivable he actually lost it Even before that by not Anticipating that it would "step out" on him. Of course now we're talking about the "other side" of car control - making corrections Before The Fact ;)

With a true full time awd system like Subaru's Symmetrical or Audi's Quattro [most of the performance revisions anyway] if you step out of the gas too quickly mid-turn you will see the same effect as trail breaking and you will oversteer. The R8 V8 isn't all that powerful so imo he would get himself into less trouble powering out than pulling out of the gas after he loses traction. Of course, all the basic driver dynamics still apply like looking where you want to go and steering into the slide, and he probably lost the car from a series of mistakes, but if you start to slide in a car with these awd systems and pull your foot out of the gas, you WILL spin. Of course, this is based on my experience with RS4 and S4, the R8 may make use of the Lambo awd system in which case I will probably kill McGrunin with this advice because Lambo awd sucks donkey balls.
