Healthy food to eat at night?

Too many people recommending sugar here (that includes the fruit eaters). That leads to insulin spike, leading to fat storage if you haven't done anything for a bit and aren't going to do anything for the rest of the day.

Stay low carb after that last meal. I go with eggs. If you hit it HARD in the gym, add some sweet potato, but most likely... just eggs and some more veggies.

Yes, stay low carb so you can feel hungry and eat more junk.

Chew minty gum. This gives your mouth something to do and the mint will make other foods taste undesirable.
Bad idea. Chewing makes your body think it's about to get some food, so the stomach starts releasing things to metabolise it. That'll end up making you feel more hungry. If you do that too regularly, eventually, it'll lead to stomach ulcers too.

I've been eating rice cakes a lot recently. They taste of pure blandness, but you get used to them.

What you mentioned applies to processed sugars - natural sugars from fruits do not have the same effect on the body as sugars in processed foods. Enjoying a small bowl of fruit as Jason recommended will not have any long-term effects on weight gain or fat storage.

Yeah they do just considerably less.

It may not satisfy the people who would ask this question either. Six egg whites, one yolk, diced onion & tomato, nutritional yeast scrambled with tobasco chipotle ftmfw.

Drink a protein shake.

This is an excellent idea. Better yet spread your meals out a little more, go low carb, high protein and fiber. You'll stay fuller, longer. Maybe around 11 or so crush a chicken breast or a pork chop (or some other decent protein) and some green veggies or some cottage cheese (good source of casein protein which takes a few hours to digest). If you're that hungry you have to eat.

I really like raw nuts late night, raw are harder for your body to digest, and they don't put weight on as a result. Raw walnuts, peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds.

Just doing this instead of my old late night homemade pizzas has helped alot...

Haha, have you never low carbed? It kills your appetite. Makes dieting easy, paleo, leaning toward keto, I dropped weight and was never hungry.

This. Low carb is so much more filling than any other diet out there as you tend to eat a good amount of fiber along with it. I do low carb, you can basically eat a couple decent size meals and never be hungry.

You already know what's healthy.
It's flavor that drives us to habit. Explore fruits & organics. Eat closer to the food chain. Find something you really dig for the late night grub. Once you're hooked on good stuff it's easy.

I work and eat late. I like to have breakfast before bed. Fruit salad, OJ, & oatmeal. Lots of water, because I'm a coffee drinker, and must rehydrate. Eat 3 hrs before bed.

You'll feel like a million bucks in morning.

No I have not. I've done quite the opposite and dropped weight like a rock. I'm not going to get into a full blown debate especially because I'm not educated enough about a low carb diet nor do I care to read about it. However, at first glance, depriving the body of it's primary fuel source doesn't seem right.

stop eating 3 hours before sleeping.
After your meal, floss and brush your teeth. Prepare for bed even if you're not going to bed. It will help you get past eating again.

It's generally pretty good, but I have one almighty achilles heel.... late at night.

We generally eat a main meal (fresh cooked, protein + vegetables) around 6pm. Earlier than I'd like ideally, but that's the only time we can do it and eat as a family.

What do you guys usually eat for dinner? Is it generally low fat (e.g. chicken, haddock) or something fattier (e.g. a juicy rib-eye, salmon, swordfish)?

Fat is your friend when it comes to night-time cravings. For example, if I have turkey or chicken for dinner and stay up late the cravings get to me. Some almonds take care of that, however (or any other fatty nut).

Also, do you drink alcohol with/after dinner? That will make you crave as well.

Yeah sorry you are a vegan, the rest of us are not. Haters going to hate douche bag. Vegans don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

As already said, shouldn't eat at night before you goto bed. Drink water instead.

But if you have to, peanuts, or mixed nuts with a bunch of sunflower seeds, raisins, and all that good stuff in them. Taste good, very fulfilling, good fiber, etc.

Or even unbuttered popcorn would do the trick. Almost 0 calories, and will fill you up, or least make your mind think you're full.

Huh? Why? He says he goes to bed between 2-3 am and he last eats at 6pm. There is no reason he can not take in a decent meal around 11, period. When your body asks for food, you feed it. Doesn't mean gorge yourself, but he works a similar schedule I do and I would defiantly eat if I where him. He's gone 5 hours without eating, he needs to eat something.

Popcorn is also full of carbs, not something you want to eat, he's looking for a meal not a high carb snack. Once you get past the cals, you can start realizing what you are eating.
