First off, I'd tell him if he wanna makes some money you can get him on CAM and will take 60% of the revenue that comes from it. That way you make some money, he makes some money, you secure money for his rent and food he has ate.

Second, I'd tell the girl she needs to run to the store and get some sugar and milk.

It seems odd that you're so against asking someone to stop stealing from you. Whether you want to accept it or not, or excuse his behaviour because he's gay and has no money, it seems apparent that you fear confrontation.

Talking to someone about stealing your stuff doesn't need to be a big argument. Just take him to one side and say, "I don't mind you using my spices, but if you want anything else be sure to ask me first."

If he carries on then you can get creative, but looking for any solution that involves not just speaking to him is strange.
 
Start a revenge on your roommate website, share your story, make some friends and make money from his mistakes. Oh wait.

No reason to pussyfoot around the issue, or try to solve it in a roundabout way. Just straight up tell him, "stop eating my food." How hard is that?

You'd be doing yourself a favor by not dragging your feet on this. Trust me you don't want roommate issues to keep building up.
 
You say otherwise, he's an ideal roommate, so don't overreact. Put the sugar into a different container and hide it. Fill sugar container with salt. Should get the message across without starting a war.

Any sort of passive aggression like that is an overreaction and might start a war, with the gay guy responding by replacing the feta cheese with his smeg.

nomak, this situation is about you, not him. You're angry but you don't want to confront him over it.

Either accept that you're feeding him, or confront him. Don't be angry and leave it unresolved.
 
Resolution of conflict:
1- Talk to the person
2- If no change, take action (ala amateur surgeon, fuck switching salt for sugar, that is really female)
