Started experimenting Friday, here are my results so far:

Keyword Arb page 1 - disqualified
Keyword Arb page 2 - disqualified
Ad to MFG site - ran, got impressions , stopped getting impresions from low clicks (sent to their home page, want to see if the system really was working)
Standard Landing Page - got disqualifed (it was a wine ad, so a terms issue)
Keyword Arb page 1 Modified - changed up the add text. Set a low CPC, got nothing but no disqualifications. moved CPC up 4x got 2K impressions and stopped
Direct Link to an info product affiliate offer - moved CPC up 4x got 140K impressions, 14 clicks, stopped.

I will experiment with targeting the traffic. Maybe the mass impressions + low click through is causing a problem.

Yes, your low CTR is causing problems for you for sure. I was talking about this with someone else yesterday.

Here's how it works:
Facebook uses an automated system to decide when to show your ad. They decide which ads to show based on which will potentially be the most profitable. When they first run your ad, they throw 2k-10k impressions at it to see how many people click on it. Let's use an example -
ad #1) Dating Site Ad - 5000 impressions, 2 clicks = .04% ctr.
ad #2) Health Product Ad - 5000 impressions, 50 clicks = 1% ctr.

Facebook knows that for every person they show ad #2, they have a 1% chance of that person clicking through, and they get to charge you money for the click, whereas with ad #1, they only have a .04% chance.

So lets say the max bid for ad #1 is set at $2.00 (yes, pretty high) and #2 is at $0.10. At first glance you'd assume that ad #1 is going to get shown more.

$2.00 * .04% = $.0008
$0.10 * 1% = $.001

That's the average amount of money facebook makes per impression by running each ad. So they're going to show #2 unless ad #1's bid is raised to an even more rediculous level.

Moral of the story? Make your ads look good. I got one right now getting a .4% CTR and my traffic just keeps on coming.

What Nicky said is def. right on...

If you have a .01% ctr, they are going to can your ad...
Meaning no impressions, no clicks, it just sits dead in the water.

Raising your bid is going to hurt you... especially if you use a REAL high bid... think about it, your CTR is shitty (say .03%) you raise that bid, you get more impressions... clicks increase, but not at the same rate as impressions.

Im doing just peachy with a .05%
Once you drop to .01 your done

Haven't seen any hits from dev.facebook... and I've done a few ads...
Who knows... if your getting ads passed right away, today might be your day, and thats all I'll say...
Hmm, rhyming is fun

i seem to be on a roll with immediate approval. But my CTR sucks, so the ads don't last long. Must admit, it is addictive watching those impressions explode, as opposed to the usual wait forever with google only to find out your inactive!

Looks like my imprssions top out around 150K before they can me for having a .01 CTR.

also, setting my CPC at $0.40 out of the gate - end up paying betwen $0.11 and $0.26. Definitely think that helps as opposed to moving it up over time.

I'm noticing the same thing.

I had a flyer going and got 950k impressions in about 2 hours time, but only 145 clicks and my 0.01% CTR ended up sending my impressions to 0 for the last 3 hours. I originally bid $0.20 per click. Only made $1.50 and spent $27. So I'm negative $25.50

But in Google Adwords I'm running the same ad but I'm seeing about 150% ROI.

You need to target better and/or understand the type of people you're targetting

They have so much more data than they let us use to target, bah so annoying
What exactly do you mean? You can target pretty much everything in a user's profile - Age, location, gender, keywords, network type, etc. What's not targetable?

I don't know if its just me or not but I tend to find Facebook hard to target. Most of my offers are gendered to the masses. None of my offers are targeted towards Liberals, Conservaties, Males, Females, etc... And when I go to include keywords it just about KILLS my target audience.

Example, if I did an iphone zip submit and put iphone in the keywords field how much would that really help? Are you guys (wsmith810) seeing a better CTR because of this? I would think rather targeting the masses with a free iphone offer would be more profitable in this case. Am I wrong?

Seriously, dude. Facebook is one of the absolute easiest to target. But it's not like search where you can target any niche. Just think about who the average user of facebook is (college kids). Take a look at what affiliate offers you have available, go through them, and for each one, think about if you were an 18-early 20something college student, would you click on an ad for that? If not, find something else. There's plenty you can sell. If all else fails, just refresh facebook and see what other people are pumping.

I've tried both and have failed miserably at both.

What I beleive my biggest obstacle is would be when I'm targeting a specific keyword. The keywords kinda kills it for me because I KNOW there's plenty of stuff that interests people that DO NOT mention it in their profile. Isn't that whom I would want to target? I'm thinking targeting a specific keyword would kill my conversions. Or at least it has in the few campaigns I've tried where I used a keyword.
