So my day is nearly ending (it's 10:30 and I'm at my girlfriends) so I thought I'd post a bit of info for anyone reading this thread who is having issues with Facebook. I'm no master, but I've managed to take a campaign that was having no luck last night/this morning and turn it into a campaign that is converting at a solid 60%.
:::::Headlines:::::
I guess this really applies to any PPC ad copy out there, but it's especially true for facebook. Right now I have two headlines, headline A (general/standard) and headline B (catchy).
Headline A has 93,347 impressions, 40 clicks, and has resulted in 29 leads, with a CTR of 0.04%.
Headline B has 8,303 impressions, 35 clicks, and has resulted in 20 leads, with a CTR of 0.42%.
Headline A reads something like "Do You Like NICHE?"
Headline B is "Hope You Like RELATED TERM", with the ad completing the statement.
Lesson learned: Write headlines that are catchy but relate to the ad copy.
:::::Niche's:::::
This is straight out of first-year marketing. What is Facebook made up of? College students, high-school students, and a university students. Sure there are adults and whatnot on there now, but the vast majority of "Facebookers" are 16-21 years old.
What does that tell you about the niche that you should hit Facebook with? It should be free. A free signup, be it an e-mail submit, a mobile offer, or a first page submit. Whatever you have that is free. It should also be something that a college/university student would appreciate. Identifying what your target market wants is the best way to determine how to approach them and what offers to throw in front of them.
Lesson learned: Don't offer anything that requires money up-front in order for you to get paid.
:::::Targeting:::::
I've got two ads right now running the same product but targeting different groups. One (headline A) has 90,000 impressions and 40 clicks. The other has 9,000 impressions and 40 clicks (at this point), with a CTR that is ten times higher and is converting just as well.
The second ad is still targeting the same people, but also some related terms and things that those people may be interested in. Because Facebook doesn't rape you with quality score you are actually able to do this and still make money.
Lesson learned: Target directly, and target related terms. IE - if your pushing a rock music mobile offer, target people that like rock music as well as people that like cell phones, MTV, and concerts.
Anyway, I know that a lot of what I said is a repeat of what others have said, but I thought I would throw it in there because it's what's been working for me. Good luck- I'm off to bed (hopefully when I wake up I'll be looking at high $XXX for the day).
