erect the impaler ... why excessive bumping is bad for your sales

Easiest way to clean up BST is enforce post limitations and for legitimate services, charge them a flat rate fee just to create a thread.

Then have them go through a review/screening process to make sure the work is upto par, if they pass all those loops then they deserve to sell their services here.

Otherwise GTFO and go back to WAFO and DP

I agree, you'd be surprised how many idiots a simple $1 fee will weed out.

While I agree with the first part of this sentence, I definitely disagree with the second.

I got my start into SEO by selling SEO services. As a broke college student, the low barrier to entry (no fee for thread creation) allowed me to jump right into the market and start selling.

Furthermore, adding fees would create a lot of hassle for the mods as they would have to deal with fee collection and unlocking threads.

Why don't we have 2 levels of BST? The existing level can be level 1 and then we create level 2 which is private until you have 100 posts + 20 iTraders*.

At least then anyone who was able to claw their way through the noise of level 1 to get a 20 iTrader rating despite being lost in a sea of crap MUST be a quality provider hence being allowed access to exclusivity.

*Thread starters, not responders.

Good idea. Free Market Elite.

This idea won't be popular:

Don't place qualifiers on vendors. Or at least really think about it before you do. I'm talking about stuff like post count, $1 fee, mandatory review copies, etc. I agree that it would weed out a lot of crap. But it seems draconian.

It's better to have the community report BS (from vendors and *cough* "buyers" *cough*), and respond with temp bans and public displays of the reasons. Kinda like erect just did. Nothing over the top. No drama. Just a temp ban with a "Here's what you did, dum-dum. Cry all you want. There's no appeal. Come back when the ban lifts. Pull this bullshit again, and you're done here. New people? Learn."

Long-term, it'll have a more positive effect on the board than qualifiers. It's not that qualifiers won't work. But think hard before going down that road.

I think the idea of a 2nd tier BST section sounds pretty good, though I am sure it would be hard to setup. In influx of new crappy services in recent months has been crazy I can hardly find anything in BST anymore.

Of course this could also be solved by just forcing a post count before using the current BST section which I bet is far easier to do. Just make sure its not dependent on itraders. After I find a service I do the rest of my business with them via PM or something else. I have way more transactions than itraders its just not something you think about.

This is good idea, but like we all know, build a system and it'll get gamed. I see it leading to more sock puppetry in an attempt to get to the 20 itrader level.

In case this gets integrated tho, motherfuckers be owe'n me some itraders, I should have at least 58 by my count. For when I want to launch thread full of affliliate links. ;)

erect .. nice job love the pimp hand pic  .. more to come when I get a sec..

I think if everyone pitch's in on this thread and it is pinned to the BST area with a title like "Newbs Read This Muthafuckers Before Posting" they might catch on.. "might" being the keyword.

I like the idea of Days Banned.. There should be points system..

2 bumps = 1 week
3 bumps = 1.5
Stupid = perm ban

Also something that would help is .. they have to post what they are selling in the title. They like to post "Me Has PR5 links", you read through the shit and they are offering profile links on a PR5 site, or they make you guess what they are offering as it is not clear on purpose.

Should be "Profile Links on PR5 Sites" in title.

Grind they should be asking you for reviews yours are the most detailed I have seen and you lay it all out.

I try to, from both a service and results perspective. Claiming a review copy shouldn't be about the free links, it should be about vetting prospective outsourcers for the entire communities welfare. If it benefits the provider too, great. If not, then it benefits the rest of us in minutes and dollars saved.

Hey Grindstone,

I get a lot of value out of your reviews and input. Not talking about you at all.

There are some serial freebie-seekers here who get their post-count and iTrader shockingly high simply by demanding review copies. Simple mod review of a person's posting history and iTraders should reveal a smoking gun.

How about anyone with under 1000 posts, who requests 10 or more reviews per week? ;)

N~

I've got a couple of these guys scoped out too, one of which who's game consists of coming into threads after all the review copies have been claimed and trying to leverage his post and itrader count on here for a more "authoritative review" of their service, usually after all the other reviews are in, including some full price reviews offered by satisfied customers. Yeah, you know who you are, knock that shit off, not cool.

Props to OP, erect, zingo for making this happen, I'm clearing a couple hours later to wade thru the cesspool and contribute. So sick of looking 3 pages deep for the good shit.

I gotta get out of this thread and back to work but +1 on ^^.

Brand new member here. I really don't like the idea of limiting the 'free market' that's setup now as I wouldn't have been able to find several of the providers if there were all these qualifiers in place.

I do purpose this: why not take a combination of pacman0r's and LotsOfZeros' ideas and make another BST forum for folks that are 'approved'. There are a number of ways the approval process could be done: the provider offers free review(s) to a 'qualified' or 'trusted' member (again, something that I'm not able to define) or they could simply be required to pay an extra 'verification donation' to WF.

Now remember that this is an ADDITIONAL BST forum that has been created. If you don't want to jump through the hoops of all this extra verification, great, just post your ad with the hundreds of others in the normal BST forum.

I could foresee the people that have gone the extra step to be approved could command a higher fee than the ones that chose not to.

Actually the 2nd tier is really easy to set up... this is vBulletin. Great idea, though I suspect regulars will only be buying services from that area, which may cause the newbs to get creative. ;)

Jake, are you saying that central planning the marketplace could lead to unintended consequences?

/softball

I see what you did there. However, if you think about it, the current problems in BST are due to a complete lack of regulation. Hence the need for this thread.

I like the idea of having a minimum post count in place (50-100) before they can even post in BST. That would eliminate sock puppet reviews in BST and ensure that by the time a provider gets to that post count in other sections of the site, they understand how the forum works, and what the community expects out of them.

Yeah, I'm sure we're thinking about the same people. These guy's post counts are so high now (mainly through freebie-seeking) that they claim "legitimacy". Then you look at their iTraders and realize that 95% of them come from "free reviews". Sheer quackery, I say.

The other problem here, especially in the Content section of the BST, are the dubious number of people who claim they are "Native English speakers", or "Journalists", or use Western sounding names as their forum ID.

Then you get some content from them and realize that their writing is a cesspool of toxic fermented shit.
