erect the impaler ... why excessive bumping is bad for your sales

I don't think there's anything wrong with bumping your own thread if you're lowering the price/offering a discount or if you're changing the nature of your services (like offering more or less for the same price as in your original post). But bumping to say "waiting on more orders" should NOT be okay.

As for requiring 100 posts in order to post in the BST section, I'm 100% in agreement with that. Why the hell should you be able to make money here without even contributing anything to the community? And I'm sick and tired of the ridiculously high priced garbage going through the BST section.

And I think giving free review copies should be required if it's a new service, regardless of how many posts or Itraders you have. It really pisses me off when some dumbass comes in and posts about his wonderful service for $75 and won't offer any free review copies when he's got 1 post (the post he made to start the thread) and 0 Itrader. Why the fuck would I risk losing my hard earned cash to some retard who can't even understand this concept? The BST section really needs a lot of work. It's dysfunctional the way it is now.

if you think about it, the current problems in BST are due to a complete lack of regulation.

Lack of regulation can go toward anarchy or chaos. The first is good. It just means self-governance. The second is bad. It means disorder. The first does not lead to the second.

What we have in BST nears chaos.

@erect - See? This is why you have to lock this stuff down. Idiots like me will start puking up irrelevant claptrap. ;)

I see what you did there. However, if you think about it, the current problems in BST are due to a complete lack of regulation.
The problems are not due to a complete lack of regulation. The BST was much better 6 months ago, when the rules and enforcement were the same.

I like the idea of having a minimum post count in place (50-100) before they can even post in BST. That would eliminate sock puppet reviews in BST and ensure that by the time a provider gets to that post count in other sections of the site, they understand how the forum works, and what the community expects out of them.
I can tell you already that will create the unintended consequence of more spammy posts in the rest of the forum. **

As always, a market is only as good as its participants are vigilant. It can't all be on erect. If people want a good marketplace, they need to roll up their sleeves.

Wickedfire has never been about training wheels or diaper changing.

** plus it requires a big change in usergroups and permissions, and I haven't seen the admins very active around here in some time. I wouldn't hold my breath. People bitch about the BST too much and it gets back to Jon, and he won't fuck around with it. He'll go all Forum Fuhrer and everyone will have a sore ass when he is done including the people who thought that pushing shit uphill was actually going to lead to a better BST.

I'm not saying the lack of regulation caused the spammy shit, but it might now be needed to eliminate the spammy shit.

I agree about the unintended consequences but I think that's part of why we like the solution. If they start spamming in other sections they are more likely to get neg repped, which will make it very hard for them to hock their BS. Or like other regulation it could go too far and fuck things up more. I think we can all agree that something needs to be done (I don't even go in BST anymore).

You probably right that Stanley and Jon aren't in a hurry to fuck with user permissions so we might need a different solution.

1 year ban ... enough of that shit

- rep with a warning ... at least (s)he was cleaver.

2 triple bumps and a double ... that's 8 total and my choices were 7 or 10 days. A week just seemed too short

4 bumps in a row ... but 120 total posts. You get 4 days, consider yourself warned.

This is a problem for me. Lots of good stuff & many honest sellers yet even trusted members stay away. Must.Be.Fixed

It's in STS now where irrelevance is embraced. I'll be moving it to SBT & making it sticky once it's had a lot of exposure.

The BST section really needs a lot of work. It's dysfunctional the way it is now.

It's still the best marketplace in any forum because of the integrity of our member's honest reviews (bad reviews for shitty products, free or not = good for the community) & the absence of ebooks.

It will always be a work in progress but you'll find some of the best products on the internet that are almost totally exclusive to WF. It's a helluva marketplace as it currently stands (my opinion).

You're overthinking this.

Go through each post.

If it's shit, ban them forever.

End of story.

You could ban 100 people today without trying.

Jeeze that poor cat or what ever it was! damn,,,

Come on bitches don't let me have all the fun... post up some links of some violators...

Faith without works is dead! If everyone reading this thread would go and find 5 we could have them weeded out before the weekend was over.

I am starting to see the patterns and can pick them out much more quickly ;)

Then just keep an eye out as your checking the forum, the shit will die away eventually if they cannot bump and break rules, then you have the good people left..

This is the last BST area that is worth a shit protect it, and respect it!

I'm only speaking for myself here, but when I go into the BST section, I already know what I'm looking for and I generally go to one of maybe 4-5 people that I've used in the past and trust with my jobs. All the other bullshit I don't even pay attention to. I know there is a problem in there, but I just don't pay it any mind.

That being said, we could always go to the "random infraction point system" like DP has. Anyone want to be part of that nightmare?

That sounds like work to me, I'll pass. I'm actually having fun doing it this way; A couple of bans along with some pretty pictures .. I entertain easily.

+ I'd rather this thread linger on forever as a constant reminder to douche bags tarnishing our squeaky clean reputation .

The other problem here, especially in the Content section of the BST, are the dubious number of people who claim they are "Native English speakers", or "Journalists", or use Western sounding names as their forum ID.

Then you get some content from them and realize that their writing is a cesspool of toxic fermented shit.

I've given up on WF's BST because of this. I have a startup article directory, which needs constant content. I've read so much "English" bullshit, that came HIGHLY recommended in some cases -- it's just too frustrating. I really don't know who these idiots are trying to fool...or why members with high post counts are recommending their less-than-stellar works.

I hope something gets done, because this is the only forum I like to spend any of my time on and I need some real content for my English speaking traffic. I predict the problem will get worse -- most of these guys aren't even smart enough to read around before starting up their "business." So having threads to warn, or educate spammers and scammers about WF culture (before they start posting) will have no effect on the morons.

It is tough to find good writers for cheap, I only pay after I receive the content and it passes the grade. I have went through many writers and once I find a good one I keep them busy.

Never pre-pay for content you will keep getting fucked over and over. I don't even prepay to my good writers.

New writers I let them know in advance if they send me something that looks like it was written by habeeb, they just wasted there time and mine.

And I dont trust reviews from anyone for writers I gotz to read dat shit myself.

+1 for 100 post requirement

Low enough that you aren't excluding regular members, high enough that DP/Wafo refugees won't bother to actually become active in the chase of $5.

I know this won't be popular but...

Despite the limitations of the BST section, I find it extremely useful. I get 90% of my hired help there. I spend a few K per month on people there (content + links). 97% of the time I get the service that is advertised with links. Writing services tend to be more problematic.

I'm very grateful for the work the mods do. No, the sections it isn't perfect, but it is good enough for me; I can't imagine working without it.
