What about traffic to your niche directory?

Without some real traffic you won't retain advertisers and you won't sell advertisers on spending money with you to begin with.

How much traffic do you try to sustain before seeking out advertisers?

Great post, but if you think this is going to wash away the memories of you being a drunken ass you are mistaken!

$600 for startup costs is too steep? Fuck man, go invest in windex and a squeegee.

CorrectAD, how much of the technical work do you outsource? Ie is your scraper script custom coded by a freelancer or a package you found and hacked? What about design work?

I have great ideas like these but, in the end, it always seems that it takes ridiculous (read month) of design work to make and code one site to HOPE it pulls a profit (and typically does not).

This sounds a lot like what Google is doing. You better hurry up and get some good cities. And the way I see it, you don't really need to live there to advertise, either. :) Just send advertisements in the mail.

This also gave me some really good ideas for expanding. Awesome. *adds to list*

I do have to say this is a great post for the noobs... still a great post, but shit you fuckers need to wake up and start doing things if you think this is 'new' or 'amazing'.

I've been doing this exact same thing for years now, and yes it works. Plus it helps me build up really relevant directories/sites for other ventures I want to go in to.

Say for example I want to get into Real Estate... I built several niche directories in real estate.. one for agents, one for brokers, one for home inspectors, one for builders.. etc. Get the point dumb ass's? Then I went I scraped the content from a few places and put it in the sites. I even localized the bitch too.

Guess what, people were wanting to get into the directories so I charged them yearly fees, then months down the road when I wanted to open a MLS site, BAM BAM BAM BAM.. I got targetted niche links to throw at it from all the directory site.

Shit, if you think this is new or amazing, go back to DP.. but still a good post for those that need to wake up and start building.

Niche Business Directory

I need the actual niche directory listing of businesses to market my new commercial cleaning company to. Where can I get a directory of businesses in the Detroit, Metro Detroit area?

Sales genie dot come... go pay em $249/month and you can get all the leads for any kinda of fucking business imaginable...
Geo-Targeted as well

I'm currently doing ONLINE versions of this and can vouch for this method. Think of niches that have people just waiting to throw cash at you. That's all I'm going to say.

In my opinion, CorrectAD may be spending a tad too much time on one directory. All you need is one advertiser onboard then you can open the local yellowpages and send a quick letter telling them that "Hey, your competition is getting a leg up on you, here's how. And here's a similar directory we have that can put you in the same spotlight"

Once you start getting advertisers, you'll get more and more. Why? How many times have you opened the paper and saw some competitors ads and thought, "Hell, they are doing it, I should too!"

I'd rather sell 500 $500 packages via 100 directories then having just one really popular one making $1000 a premium package. Just saying.

+rep. Solid post.

That's some really good info Scott - I've actually started playing with multiple directories for the cross/up sells.

Instead of waiting for advertisers, I just pulled some high-powered nich-related CPAs and used them to attract the 'paying' customers. It's worked really well, too.

meh...ok idea but requires too much work and start up costs.

hahaha what a fag

I outsourced everything. Took all of 2 weeks to get up and running... granted it's kind of ugly, it still does the job and sales are coming in.

I'll invest in design as needed.

This thread is Hotter than a Bytch!!! Does anyone have an example of what one of these should look like?

Fuck the chamber of commerce...

Go to sales genie, invest some cash with them, and U can get leads for any nice/market/type of business you looking for... ALL KINDS OF DATA

I believe they also do single (category) pricing too... Not 100% on that

Good luck
