Was actually a pretty violent shake of the building I was at (West Hollywood). It was at least not one of those where you ask "was that an earthquake".
 
Probably would have slept through it if my girl didn't wake up screaming. She had never felt an earthquake before, you always remember your first.
 
Only earthquake where I thought I was toast was in Orange County, CA.
For unrelated reasons, I was a visitor in the emergency section of the hospital which was bottom floor/underground.

I watched a split between the wall and ceiling progress away from me and knew there was no way I could clear the impact of 7 stories above me. So, I stayed with the person who had no other options but to stay there.

That was one of the times where I seriously thought I wasn't going to make it to the end of the day. Other than that kind of stuff, I don't understand those people who get all wiggy when the ground shakes.
