If he does not REQUIRE us or our children to join, then I have no problem with it. I was concerned because of the fact that he did have the word "REQUIRED" and the fact that his wife gave a speech earlier in the campaign stating that Obama would "REQUIRE" people to work.

If I seriously thought he was going to try and require me to work community service each year I would have thrown a fit. I work for no man.
I think Obama is trying for more of a "Ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country." kind of thing.
We've got 35 or 45 mandatory community service hours in highschool here in Canada (my school had 75 mandatory). The bright side to all of this is that we'll all get pretty red star pins with Obama's face in the centre (nudge at Rusky).
