Can Bing or Blekko Beat Google?

Its very very hard to beat google almost impossible, its most powerful search engine everybody knows about that.

Bing has a much better looking interface (thanks to the photos) and they've got a huge marketing opportunity with google starting to create bad will. Just point out that it's all about the search with them (or that it's all about computing with microsoft) with no creepy glasses, no privacy bullshit, no robot cars that will run people over. Play up the anti-govt angle too.

But like someone else mentioned, their marketing has sucked

As it stands, Bing can't beat Google simply because Bing is an inferior search engine. There's not really any reason to use Bing over Google other than because you have some grudge against Google or whatever.

Thinking back to that Google vs. Bing competition they did makes me laugh. The one where you would search for something and vote which results were better or whatever. I don't remember what the results were but I'm sure it was something like "over 70% of people preferred Bing results!" People picked the Bing results why? Because they had pretty pictures on the serp, or it was more aesthetically pleasing in some way. Big deal.

Recently I was trying to remember a movie I saw a long time ago, and all I could remember was that it was in Japanese and there was some sort of "hatchet clan" in it or something. So, I went to Google and searched "hatchet clan movie"

It blew me away that they knew exactly what I wanted, despite my vague search (and wrong one at that - the thing in the movie was named the "Axe Gang"). But if I had searched it in Bing?

Not even fucking close.

Yeah, it's not like this search was of great importance (like 99.999% of searches) but I felt like this really shows how Google is "next level" compared to Bing.

Bleeko ? what is that ? FB would be the new social search engine , i just remember the day that i stopped searching in yahoo and opened google for first time.

This is exactly the kind of search I do all the time, and it's uncanny how Google manages to always know what I'm looking for. I can't stand the fuckers most of the time, but I don't see any SE anywhere near as intelligent as G is right now. And their data--which is feeding their algorithm--is coming in faster than any other search engine, so good luck bros catching up to that.

Like social networks (i.e. Facebook), a lot of the "value" in your preferred search engine is familiarity. Nobody wants to change bookmarks or the "look" they've already gotten used to. Even the muscle memory we all have in typing in G-O-O-G-L-E is hard to replace.

Data from compete.com for 1+ year

Yahoo is nowhere near bing and google, and bing is way behind google

One of my browsers has a Bing Search in it's toolbar. I search for Drupal questions frequently and am shocked at how poor Bing is. Bing must hate it when I type Google into their tool bar to find my answers.

For all the bitching, Google is still better.

a buddy of mine works at blekko, they are just focusing on custom search solutions for companies now, not trying to beat out Google/Bing.

Underdogs can take down favourites, you can find it happened a lot of times in the past. Facebook taking down myspace, Google taking down AOL, yahoo's positions etc. However Sergey is a genuis and makes good judgment on most of the Google's investments. I won't deny some of them failed miserably due to prematurely planning and wrong execution.

Will Bing or Blekko yield better results oneday? Sure why not, but Google is not only search engine they have much more indept corperation compared to his competitors. Taking down a competition requires a clear gameplan and I don't think neither of those have it fully comprehended it yet.

Taking down Google however will be an end of an era literally at least for IM. In this regard Blekko's approach is more accurate in my opinion rather than directly aiming Google's position just create your own community which will eventually deplete Google's marketshare.

My 2 cents...I really don't see how Bing, Facebook, or Blekko or someone else can beat Google in next few years...they earning big money with Adwords and investing in all potentially great technologies. Someone should present something really revolutionary in to beat Google in upcoming years.

we know google are big than others now, many website are depending how they rank in google than to others like in bing..

I think that Bing has no chance to beat Google, and Blekko even less chances (personally, i don't like it, it seems a poor imitation of Google, and i'm not mentioning that the results you get on a search are less relevant than in the first two browsers i've mentioned)

Yes I agree. No one is going to beat Google anytime soon. The problem is Google have developed and own all Intellectual Property regarding algorithmic search. No one is going to be able to generate the search results in the same fashion Google do.

The only way Google will be beaten is if someone changes HOW good search results are generated... and this can't be done algorithmically.

Possibly socially curated by the masses perhaps??

i think now that facebook and bing are working together and yahoo also now uses bing, i think market share of google is gonna go down for search, how much nobody can predicts.
