Can Bing or Blekko Beat Google?

Yeah Google has been around for decades.

I remember coming across google website 12 years ago, that time yahoo was the dogs bollcks, and alltheweb.com was expected to be the next best thing, google came completely below the radar, they had a long term plan, provide very good non spammy, highly relvant search results.

It's algorithm was so good that it converted people bit by bit, the turning point came for me, when more and more people were talking about google, I ditched alltheweb.com and adopted google.

Bing may or may not be the next best search engine, it wont happen overnight though, bing probably need [and know this and have implemented] a ten year plan to convert google users to bing users.

Bing does have the budget to compete with google though so it has a fighting chance.

Theoretically, all it should take to knock Google off is for a competitor to reach critical mass. However, due to the extra services that Google has linked in with search (mail/videos/maps/news/shopping) the threshold needed to get people to switch has become significantly higher than back in the late 90s when your search engine was just a search engine.

Personally, I think Google has reached a similar stage to Microsoft with Windows & Office. They have such a huge proportion of the market, with relatively good features that people are just completely apathetic to change.

i never heared anything like bleko

but someday Bing may give competition to google in some extents not in Search For sure

Facebook is different than Google, is a SOCIAL NETWORK and only that. Google is not only a search engine, take Google Maps, Adsense, Gmail, and many many other products they offer over the web, so it´s power is really heavy compared to others. I don´t think Bing will surpass this.

well facebook serps = bing.

when someone searches in fb, if fb can't find anything it gives bing search results.

Bing also made a deal with facebook to share like data, so bing now has strong insight onto what real humans are liking on facebook. This could be huge for algorithms, imagine your company fan page with the url on gets liked by 10K people, well bing will probably take that data into consideration.

As well as read off other valuable social data to help in serps i suppose.

Bing/Microsoft/FB could surprise a lot of you that are saying "Nothing can't beat Google".

Don't just repeat what others are saying, most of you are Online marketers, think like one. Your vision gotta be much farther than what meets the eyes.

1) Competition is always good, for both, consumers and affiliates (in this case).

2) Google has become greedy and kinda a monopoly, they want to have every APP they see or build a similar one. No only that, they have become a skynet, compiling every single bit of info about users (doesn't matter if you are logged in), to the extend that now when you do a search they present you with info about friends on your social networks in the SERP, to say the least.

3) As others have pointed out, those new thingy Big G has implemented recently, like Google Instant, Live Preview, etc. are double edge swords, when I'm surfing as a consumer I get so bothered by those thing that I have to turn off those things in G/chrome preferences. Too much clustering and resource wasted on the user side.

4) Big G swears by it guidelines, in order to rank websites, meanwhile ppl says that Bing likes spammy sites to be ranked. Wrong, I see many spammy sites ranked in the first page of google. Not to mention all those authority sites hacked, and Big G doesn't seem to care/do anything (as if they can do anything).

I'm not saying Bing/fb could *beat* G, insane statement. But will these 2 be more and more of a competition for G? I'll put my bet on a "Yes". 2011 will be a year full of big changes in the Search, Social industry I guess. So, pay close attention and you may profit from these changes.

PS: just my 2 cents based on some analysis and experience, I could be wrong.

Google has such a commanding lead over the competition that it's hard to imagine them getting dethroned. But on the other hand, with how big Facebook is getting, they'll give big G a good run for their money with all of Facebook's new upcoming features and changes.

Can Bing or Blekko Beat Google?
Google is been called now Big G. Big G is the mother of search engines. People try everyday to rank well in google. No one can beat Big G I think so.

While anything is possible, I don't know if I see this happening. Google is so established and continues to build into other areas it will be difficult for anybody to catch up at this point...

Nothing is permanent, someone will eventually beat Google. There is no doubt that Google is #1 as of now, but if you look around more and more people are using Bing. This is due to Bing's advertising campaign and that it's the default SE in Internet Explorer. Google is losing market share to Bing everyday. Read this article from Forbes about how Google is making less money nowadays then it was before, even though they advertise huge numbers (without much meaning). The other thing about Bing, is it's semantics way of search. Bing is experimenting with semantics programming. Semantics deals with the meaning of a language: the meaning of the search term, rather than the amount of keywords and back links related to the keywords. Semantic programming is the future, Web 3.0. Google Search has yet to test this new way of search for themselves.

Also, just food for thought, Yahoo search was operated by Google back in the day, then by themselves, now it depends of Bing. Although Yahoo isn't as important as it was a year or two ago, it's still very popular.

Search is a very dynamic field that is constantly changing. In an ideal world all of the players in the industry would only be concerned with providing their users with the most objective and relevant results, but we all know that's not true. Its pretty clear that Google is quickly establishing enormous control over many aspects of the internet and accumulating mass amounts of personal data on all of us. Hopefully innovation by their competitors can loosen their iron grip on search and provide more competition. In my view, until there are serious advances in semantic programming and sentiment analysis this isn't going to happen.

I don't think Google will be "beaten" anytime soon...it's a classic. It was there for us in the early days of the Internet, and it continues to be there for us by providing the most quality search results on the 'Net.

Bing might not be the one to do it, but someone else could overtake Google. Lots of things could happen to cause a game-changer. Look at the uproar over Facebook's privacy issues. That was nothing compared to what Google seems to be collecting. The internet is always changing and it's still very new. Who knows what might be next?

Google is so much larger than people realize it. It has the big dog advantage. It has the first comers advantage. It might as well own the Internet. Neither Bing nor Blekko will topple the big G.
