I at first thought I was. The thing is supposed to be revolutionary, which I can believe since it will probably turn actual books into artifacts/antiques one day.

But I was just thinking while it would be ultra cool to have, you can't really do shit with it for AM other than checking stats. It really doesn't double as a laptop at all as it serves more of an entertainment function.

But damn I'm sure they'll be pretty fucking sweet!

Any of you fanbois gonna get one?

From what I hear, it's going to be around $1000.

People have tried over and over to make tablets. They are inconvenient, serve no real function that isn't served by a small laptop, and actually make things harder to do.

Only a moron is going to buy one of these things over a netbook unless they cost about the same. Even then, the lack of a real keyboard is crippling.

I'm sure the mac fanbois are creaming their pants in anticipation, though.

Depends.

I'm going to see what it's all about. Nicky said it best, most tablets are pointless, useless, and don't really do anything better that can't be done by a netbook/small laptop.

However, it is Apple.

Call me a fanboy or whatever, but Apple makes good shit. You don't know it until you've tried it. I was an Apple hater until I picked up the Macbook pro, now I can't live without it. It's just... different. It's ergonomic, easy to use, and all around perfect. Most people will say "Well, you could have picked up a PC laptop for 1/2 the price," but I like to respond: I could have picked up a Honda Camry for half the price of my Mercedes Benz, and sure it would have gotten me from point A to point B just as well, but I'll stick with my Benz, thank you.

If the hype is true (Jobs saying that the tablet is his most important invention, for example), maybe there's something to it. If it's just a gimpy notebook and an eBook reader, no thanks, no matter how much of a fanboy I am.

When it fails, I may pick one up on the cheap to control a music/video server and catalog preview.

I had to laugh at this article on Giz... Tablet Sutra: How Are We Supposed to Hold This Thing? - Tablet sutra - Gizmodo

I'll be interested to see all the things it can do but I am so not a fan of greasy, marked up screens (I'm kind of OCD about it actually) and this is just one big grease magnet AFAIC. I'd be polishing greasy fingerprints off it with my microfiber cloth more than I would be using it.

currently creaming my pants / one of those companies that tried over and over again way back when to create a tablet was actually apple with the newton!

From what I can tell the tablet is just going to be a giant iPod touch. This has killed any excitement I may have had for it since its still just going to run the same shit from the app store. But if it turns out to be a real computer than can run actually applications I may just have to look into it.

If it costs more than a mid range laptop then it would totally not be worth it.

I'm the farthest thing from a Google fanboi but I'm really loving my Droid. A cheap Anrdoid based tablet would really be something worth considering if the price was right because you know there would be a huge app store for it.

I read somewhere they are coming.

I'm actually pretty excited for chrome os. I was looking forward to the crunchpad which was supposed to be a couple hundred with open source everything and running chrome os. If it had a mobile broadband card it would replace my netbook in the glove box for checking shit while on the move.

fuck yeah

I'm going to use mine to watch TV, Movies, etc, and to read mah pdfs. Also porn. One exception: if it doesn't do hd, I'm not buying it.

Also, I can see having Velcro or magnetic strips to hang it on the wall so I can shit and jackoff at the same time, or read pdfs.

I'm also excited because if it does well, then in a couple of years, pc makers will start copying the design and offer the same thing for 10x less.

Apple has stumbled before - anyone remember the Newton??? This tablet (like many other tablets) is probably going to be going the way of Newton.

Been using this for a while:

I read a lot of ebooks, so I can see the appeal of a keyboardless tablet to fill that niche, but personally I would rather have a convertible tablet so it can be used for other shit as well.

I don't see myself buying an Apple tablet because it will inevitably be overpriced and locked into an OS that doesn't allow you to do anything but browse their app store and iTunes.

I'm looking forward to other companies releasing cheaper, more useful devices since Apple has identified the market.

Apparently I'm the only person who has never bought an Apple product, ever.
