No way I owned it up in null sec. Did the whole shindig out there for awhile. Ganking, fleet battles, etc.
The game takes months if not years to get skills where you are even remotely useful. And even if you are one bad ass mofo the game is still heavily dependent on group battles which gets old fast.
Fleet battles are boring and uneventful. It amounts to blob warfare. All you do is click someones name on a list. Target and fire you weapons. Rinse repeat. All while your sitting on a voice chat server and theres some geeky kid calling out targets for you to attack.
The point I'm trying to make is the gameplay sucks.
Now the flip side of the coin is. If you like being a 'leader' and you want to start your own corp and you like the diplomacy side of the game then you might enjoy it. But there's a good chance you will never create a corp and if you do your chances of it being successful are even more slim. Corps require members to be successful and that game is not newbie friendly and nobody is going to join a start up corp.
Oh and even if you did get some people to join you. You won't get far before someone decides to fuck you up and make your life a living hell because they can.
Everything in that game boils down to being a peasant in someones corp.
It's a cool concept and I wish more games had this sandbox approach, but unless they create more engaging gameplay. The game will always suck if you don't hold any power in a corp.
Now if 5 years from now they had the technology to make the game a first person ship flying shooter where skills would matter. Then eve would probably be the coolest game ever. They are kinda doing this with a shoot off game they are coming out with. Apparently its a first person shooter game where people can fight over planets on the ground and its tied into eve.
Either way its a boring game unless you own your own corp or hold some kind of power in a big corp.
