Fanfest starts tomorrow, I am a little excited to see DUST 514 in action.

Since I nearly lost a whole year of my life because of WOW, I now avoid these games like the PLAGUE.

MMO's are the worst thing for your social life, health, work and overall mental sanity.

Cool looking game tho. ;)

^^ this. Precisely why I never got into WOW.

I've got a friend who's girl of like 10 years left him not long ago for this reason lulz...well others as well but this was certainly one of them.

Looks neat though with all the space stuff. I'm a big fan of these kinda games.

Tried it for a few hours but didn't feel like dedicating months trying to learn the game. I do enjoy reading some of awesome stories that come out of the game though.

This is my favorite

I did for awhile. Shits boring.
Admit it, you sucked.

You should read that Book, "Willpower" that wiredniko reviewed.

eve will ruin your life
You're so weak Cakes. You better hope we never meet up because I will crush you like an empty beer can meeting Grindstone's forehead at a modest velocity.

I love sci-fi. But Eve is cool because it is a sandbox.

Yup, guerilla is weeding out competition :P
I actually play. And it hasn't ruined my life.

Technically interesting to read about, cos python client. Would be cool to write tradebots for.
Botting is a no-no.

The learning curve is steep as erifdekciw can tell you.

The meta game is a lot more fun than mining or pew pew.

technically the best game by far mmo-wise

but I just can't dedicate all of the time it requires. Very slow paced

Too slow for me/easy to forget about. I've never been able to get into any MMO at all no matter how many times I tried. I think I've logged 50-60 hours at most in WoW and that was my most played MMO. I didn't even make it to level 20. I use the maps for SEO projects though. I'm interested to see how DUST 514 does compared to Planetside 2. PS2 looks fantastic from what I've seen so far.

Admit it, you sucked.

No way I owned it up in null sec. Did the whole shindig out there for awhile. Ganking, fleet battles, etc.

The game takes months if not years to get skills where you are even remotely useful. And even if you are one bad ass mofo the game is still heavily dependent on group battles which gets old fast.

Fleet battles are boring and uneventful. It amounts to blob warfare. All you do is click someones name on a list. Target and fire you weapons. Rinse repeat. All while your sitting on a voice chat server and theres some geeky kid calling out targets for you to attack.

The point I'm trying to make is the gameplay sucks.

Now the flip side of the coin is. If you like being a 'leader' and you want to start your own corp and you like the diplomacy side of the game then you might enjoy it. But there's a good chance you will never create a corp and if you do your chances of it being successful are even more slim. Corps require members to be successful and that game is not newbie friendly and nobody is going to join a start up corp.

Oh and even if you did get some people to join you. You won't get far before someone decides to fuck you up and make your life a living hell because they can.

Everything in that game boils down to being a peasant in someones corp.

It's a cool concept and I wish more games had this sandbox approach, but unless they create more engaging gameplay. The game will always suck if you don't hold any power in a corp.

Now if 5 years from now they had the technology to make the game a first person ship flying shooter where skills would matter. Then eve would probably be the coolest game ever. They are kinda doing this with a shoot off game they are coming out with. Apparently its a first person shooter game where people can fight over planets on the ground and its tied into eve.

Either way its a boring game unless you own your own corp or hold some kind of power in a big corp.

These MMO's look fun and all but a lot of them you have to play so long just to get to the fun part. I remember when Eve was coming out and I never really looked into it but what it looked like to me was your a spaceship and you just floated in space and that was it. Obviously there is more to the game but that's what it seemed like to me.

Only game that looked like I could play was All Points Bulletin, basically grand theft auto online. Man, I was looking forward to that game for years and they shut it down after like a few months of play lol. I heard a company bought it to try and make it better, idk though.

I'll admit I played MMOs for a good chunk of my teens and into my twenties. Just turned 29, and I think I have passed my gaming phase. While that game does look badass, and I have a friend who plays it, games in general just don't interest me anymore. Probably for the better anyway.

That's like saying "books don't interest me anymore". You are missing on some great games man. MMOs are getting cookie cutter and aren't what they used to be but there are plenty of other games that are nothing short of amazing.

Here are just a few:

1) Starcraft Series
2) Diablo Series
3) Minecraft
4) Terraria
5) Portal 1 & 2
6) Skyrim
7) Fallout Series
8) Civilization Series
9) FF7
10) Amnesia

and that's just a small list...

Played it for a bit, too slow for my tastes, and I'm too much of a Blizz fanboy. Min/maxing in wow is enough for me.

Diablo 3 son, what WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!

Also, I played Eve for a year really early on. I enjoyed the fuck out of the game. I stopped playing because I lost interest and was invited by a friend to try some other game. I never went back.

I hear the game is really different now. Like, you can get out of your ships now and walk around stations.

I don't play many video games any more. They are such a time sink.

That being said, I will be playing the fuck out of D3. At least for a couple weeks.

I only play games to blow off steam really. Like if I have been going hard for a couple hours, I will play for 30 minutes and then go back to work.

I don't understand the whole "taking over my life" deal with video games.
