Ask Nicky Anything About His Past Thread.

I'd say a whole lot of it, but probably not how you think. Most of the things they did that saved my life were.. kicking me out, convincing the judges to raise my bail, not giving me money, etc. When I was ready to clean up my life, they were also there to help with stuff like helping me find treatment, spotting me money for lawyer bills as long as I was on the right track, etc.

When they had enough of me fucking up, they literally brought me to a hotel, paid for 3 nights, and left me there with a suitcase full of my clothes and some food along with a little bit of cash. I really had no idea how hard that was for them until later, but it was really the right thing to do and I wouldn't have ended up changing anything if they hadn't done it.

So if you have kids what will you tell them about drugs? I struggle with this one.

my parents raised me always telling me drugs sucked and even giving details about their drug use. granted, when i was around 10 they both relapsed hard as fuck, so maybe it was the combination of them telling me all their stories and basically growing up in AA / NA rooms with them, and on top of that watching them both hit rock bottom again because of drugs that solidified my views on it. it made me hate all that shit from a young age, and i still don't drink, smoke, do drugs or anything.

a prime example of fucked up parenting gone right.

Probably just make sure they know they're genetically prone to addiction, and just be honest with them about everything. At the end of the day, it didn't matter how much my parents told me smoking/drinking/drugs were bad, I was going to make my own mistakes no matter what, but I think I would have rather known actual facts about what I was getting into.

but I think I would have rather known actual facts about what I was getting into.

This is what I'm talking about I'm ok with making them making a mistake like I spent "all my money on drugs and now I'm living off ramen noodles this is gay time to grow up" type mistake. Not the: "I'm now addicted for life, have no teeth, look 80 when I'm 20 and have sex with strangers for 3 dollars" mistake. I guess talking about it openly is the key and maybe just letting them know they'll always have to weigh all the facts and make their own decisions and try to not be stupid.

By and large, I'd say kids are too young to think that far down the road. They will be exposed to it, even if you send them to private school, private university and try to breed them to be successful. Why? Because cool, sexy people do drugs too.

Nicky,

Props to you for doing what you did - i was in the same boat once. crystal meth addict from 16-19. lived on the street and everything.

Thing i've learned though is that EVERYONE has their own bullshit in life that they go through. Maybe your mom's a drunk, maybe a sister gets cancer or whatever - EVERYONE has shit that fucks them up. some people get over it, and other people don't. comparing one person's life story to someone else's is just retarded. Either you made it through or you didn't, the end.

So while i do appreciate what you did, and i understand better than most, i don't think a thread about it is really helping anyone. If you're trying to help people deal with their own shit or help them deal with someone else's shit, there's only one thing to say:

if you're fucked up, the only person who can help you is you. no counseling, no rehab, only you can make the decision. otherwise it's just an exercise in futility.

now, a thread about your most profitable campaigns (that are still running) - THAT would be a big help :)

"I believe I read that this is why the D.A.R.E program failed so dramatically with young boys."
And young girls. And not so young people of any/undecided sex. D.A.R.E. was just an example of massive taxpayer supported FAIL.

I disagree, cause in 6th grade we went on this field trip to the Olympic Auditorium as part of the D.A.R.E. program and the fucking POWER RANGERS were there. AND the kids from Home Improvement. AND FUCKING FRED SAVAGE.
