I'm with you, Stack. Just running a couple of tests on my offer before I get out there and promote it.

My Yahoo Answer was selected as the best answer so I guess I will get a good sense for whether or not this thing will convert.

Very good show this year. Got a TON of new sources of advertising to test. Many, many case studies to write coming up!

Sounds good, Ruck. I've got the C2M blog bookmarked now.

Update: I contacted about 5 forum owners via e-mail yesterday. I have yet to hear back from them but I'll keep you posted.

Ruck. Do you try and pick 'no scrub' offers for this? I realize that your traffic is going to be more targeted but they'll probably still scrub. Just wondering how you go about avoiding this.

Ruck,

Very nice post. A quick question though, as far as "free ipod" type of zip submits, what if members complain the fact that they have sign up for other offers? Have you encountered this problem?

@thesilly1 - Even if they say no scrub generally the data is sent thru a series of what I refer to as "bullshit" and the advertiser refers to as "verification". No I dont nor have I really bothered choosing one over the other. Generally I like to tell the webmaster that since this is a sponsorship "it's limited". This buys me an out if I get screwed on the offer being pulled. I just pick another one and re-do the sticky/mailings.

@ed146 - I thought I mentioned a few tips on this throughout the thread but they may be buried. Yea, of course I encountered it especially the first few times I did it. Normally the I just back the webmaster into turning the replies off on the thread. On all the submits I have used their is usually a "gift status" link;). Other times I have tuck tailed and ran. It doesn't really matter if the offer was completely, no hassle. Someone is always gonna bitch about something. Best way is to prepare your sticky and try to think of every way it could go wrong for you, then simply use everything you can think of to prevent it.;)

here is my progress so far, I have 2 offers that I found to target. I have contacted 12 different forums and all of them have thrown down a big no thank you. I'm not going to give up as I see a ton of potential in this. Maybe im going about it wrong. Here is what I did.

1. Found email submit offers, 2
2. found 5 forums for 1 offer and 7 forums for the other offer
3. Contacted said forums using the example contact message ruck posted
4. All but 2 came back with either they don't allow that kind of advertising or its not a good fit for them at this time.
5. The 2 that showed some interest, I sent them the payment details and the text for the sticky, both replied with a not a good fit at this time.

So I'm thinking that something about the contact message seems salesy. Not sure. I have a question about contacting the forums though, should I contact them and state I will create a thread and they just have to sticky it or should I ask them to start the thread, paste my text in and sticky it? I am going to keep contacting forums, sooner or later one of them is gonna be down for this, I;m sure. Any tips from peeps who successfully got their thread approved would be appreciated. Thanks guys

A question I have is "Has anyone tried this with anything else besides email or zip submits?" It seems that every place I look for email or zip submits the agency has limited it to "email only" It seems senseless to ignore this requirement because they will void any sales right? Looking for information here since I am ready to jump in and get going. Thanks!

Are you guys planning on hiding your traffic source from the networks? Are you using a basic PHP redirect in your link in the sticky, or cloaking in anyway? I'm just wondering...I use Prosper202 for my tracking, but i'm wondering if putting a sticky link through a redirect might get people suspicious as it usually takes a couple extra seconds of them waiting while the refresh is happening.

Also, i'm wondering if someone can give us any idea what we should be paying for these stickies? I guess it would make sense to pay more if the forum is bigger. But does anyone have any ranges on what they have been, or will be paying for the monthly stickies? Thanx!

I have setup a site just for doing this, I am hiding my referral data using a script that rage9 posted from his blog, even though the script is aimed towards facebook ads, I initially needed it for hiding the referral data in the my articles on article sites but figure it would work just as well for this.

Why are you trying so hard to cloak Facebook?! Part 1: The beginning. | Mad PPC

I was going to use a php header redirect but was informed that would not protect my referral info and he chimed in with some great info on it. I am going off of what ruck said anywhere between $25 - $250 and offering in the higher range for bigger forums. However, I haven't had any luck with any forums being down with it yet. Its exciting though, ill figure out the best way to go about with trial and error Im sure.

Cool thanx....my P202 tracking does the same thing so i'll just keep doing that. Just didn't know if you thought a redirect (as opposed to the sticky link not going through a redirect) would make the forum owner/forum users suspicious at all...i'm probably over analyzing.

Anyway, do you have any guaging system to how you're planning on paying the owners? For example: are you just saying like $50 for forums with "X" amount of members, $100 for "Y" amount of members...etc? Or are you just throwing prices at them and seeing what sticks and negotiating? Thanx again.
