I give this "pissing match" 5 stars! (4 of them to bb-wolfe!)
I've totally enjoyed reading these threads,- awesome entertainment,.. and I gotta say that I really like this bb_wolfe character,.. I reckon he's got balls to say it as he sees it and certainly not in any kind of kiss ass manner. I'd like to encourage Mr Wolfe to indulge in a few more malts while posting just so we can see some real entertainment and let him really rip into it.
It's clear to me that bb-wolfe not only has made a really valid point on this whole issue about Grossman and his cool plug in and along the way demonstrated that he does in fact know a thing about customer service, marketing and listening to what the market really wants and needs. I say "here here" let the consumers dictate and rule when it comes to selling anything. If Sergey Brin and Larry Page had adopted Mr Grossman's attitude of "telling the market" then we wouldn't have a Google today and they wouldn't be US$30bn richer between them! They came, they saw, they listened, they delivered,..and kicked ass!
I recently was engaged by a client to customize a Brian Gardner theme and to find a kick-ass star ratings plug in that would perform some very specific but simple tasks. After searching back and forth and inside out I downloaded several plugins that I thought were OK and that could be adapted (many of which had Grossman's code stamped on them in some way shape or form). Finally I concluded that the hands down winner was Grossmans WPSR and so we went ahead and bought it. My verdict is thus: Great plugin concept which falls way short of practical features that should be stock standard at $99. At first I thought. .."whoa 99 bucks is a bit sharp" ..but what the heck.. I know that such a script takes some nifty coding (hence the lack of real competition facing Grossman's product at present) so decided to take the plunge for the 99 smackeroonies! Ultimately I've got to say that I'm disappointed in the lack of functionality and the need for manual placement of code and fiddling around...for $99 bucks this freaking thing should drive like a Ferrari,..not a model T Ford that you've got to prime and then get out front to crank over before it will move.
It seems to me that Mr Grossman has somewhat of an indifferent attitude towards critics of his plugin and a slightly arrogant attitude to suggestions that things should be changed. Listen up you dickwads... when you pay $99 for a commercial product don't be afraid to stand up and speak out for what you should be getting....which is a Ferrari...not a model T.
I'm not one for ass kissing and brown nosing so I'll be up front and say two things. Mr Grossman, I think your plug in is conceptually excellent. Your coding is clean and very professional indeed and I commend you for it. But why oh why not roll your sleeves up and finish the job? To introduce a free plugin and tell the market that "improvements and tweaks" will be forthcoming in latter releases is fine,.. but when you're releasing a commercial product at a premium price you're not afforded that luxury in my opinion,..and anyone that shells out their hard earned cash for your product only to say "oh it's fine Dan... no problem,,, we'll wait for any improvements that you're gracious enough to include" ..in my opinion are just a pack of suckers, losers & pussies! Anyway,.. in conclusion, me and my trusty php programmer (who also has BSc degrees coming out of his ass) are happily working away even as we speak to tweak your otherwise excellent script to do what we want it to do and what it should do without all of that 'get out a hand crank it' bullshit.
I'll be watching out for Mr Wolfe's impending release of his product with interest,..and if it takes a little longer than he's indicated then who cares...as long as he gets there in reasonable enough time to jump on the bandwagon so to speak (and God bless America,- home of free spirited competitive commercialism,..and fuck the rest of the socialistic kiss-ass world)!
As for Mr Grossman saying he's not really making a living from this plug in.... are you kidding me?... over 250 downloads as we speak is $25,000 in the first two months... well done,- now could you consider reinvesting a little of that profit to give the market a better product and then you'll sell twice as many!
