I don't mind competition... there have always been 3 or 4 other plugins that try to add ratings to WP. Problem is they all suck. They're rent-a-coder quality like you'll probably get, which means they don't use the WordPress APIs correctly, try to hack things intsead of using filters and hooks, making them harder to install, harder to debug, and likely to break when WordPress upgrades. And most of them were released once in 2006 or 2007 then never upgraded, while WP 2.x is way different than 1.x for plugins.

I have a bachelors degree in computer science, worked for Microsoft and DuPont as a software engineer for a while, in grad school now working on the masters in CS. In other words, I'm a real programmer, not some kid who hacked something together. For the customers this plugin has gotten already, I've written pages of code by e-mail helping them create custom sites with it, because I have worked with WP for years and have ripped it inside out enough to know how to make it do what I want in an upgrade-safe way.

And your background don't impress me. My 'other' team has guys who went through Kennedy school of whatever at Harvard, MIT, and IIT and have 20+ years progressive experience. Most of these guys have a net worth you and I combined couldn't touch. You are likely very good at WP, but so are 50,000 other guys.

I have an 8th grade diploma and make more money then all my friends, most of whom spent 4,5 or 6 years in college, by hacking things together.
They can all stick that in their grad school pipe and smoke it. :rasta:
 
See, you missed the point. It was about the attack on programming quality ("probably just edited someone else's plugin"), not "I can make more money than you". WPRS was just a fun side project, filling a niche need. I try to come up with one whenever I have spare time, like this week while my girl's at a wedding and my best friend's down in vegas gambling or something.

It's selling well, but if it doesn't rake in millions of dollars, big deal. WP plugins are not how I pay my bills. It already paid for the afternoon I spent writing it, and I had to do so anyway to keep my own niche review sites up to date.

Wasn't an attack really. You could have just said it was all custom without the resume. Most of what people sell in this niche is garbage so you never know. Just cynical I guess. And you probably can make more money than me, that wasn't really my point either though.

I'm not attacking your product, It looks great. I'm just too cheap to pay for it.
 
bb_wolfe, stop with all the crap talk and start developing your product. Then we'll see.. I bet you this ends up to be another incomplete project.
 
I had a feeling something like this might happen when I saw the premium developers price, being WF and all....
 
Hopefully the shit talking is done with, and he's off to do more than blow hot air. But really, put up or shut up, bb_wolfe. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with and might even have some suggestions for your product. But damn, you had step one sitting right in front of you...

Step 1: Recreate all the current features of the competitor's product.

Do that, then come around and ask if we've got any suggestions. Until you at least do that, you sound like a prick... who I might still do business with, if you actually come through. I don't much care about someone's business etiquette toward their competition if they've got a superior product. Especially one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

So quit blowing hot air and get something whipped up.
 
I was talking to a programmer about stealing this plugin idea and he had a great question maybe you can answer. Why the plugin? Why not just a site cms?
 
Because people like to stick with Wordpress. It's an interface they're comfortable with. And possibly because they can add more functionality to it instead of being stuck with a CMS that just does reviews.
 
It's so funny everyone wants to duplicate this.. It's like you can't come up with any ideas of your own? It's not like this is such a bright idea?.. Also, he's getting people to buy it because he already had a version 1.0 before.. So you won't get as many sales as him. If you look outside of wordpress, there's actually alot of competition in this space.
