Pretty hilarious, WF up-in-arms over male genitalia in gummy form.

Not like you have to be the first to do something, be the best at it, or it has to be an idea that changes the world in order for it 'good business idea'. Timing is just as important.

There's something about gummy dicks that struck a chord with a lot of people and made this popular. If you ask me, timing seems to be a more important component with any of these viral businesses. What these guys did was ride off the mailing glitter popularity (which mailing glitter wasn't the first here either) and did something a little different that people enjoy.

Anyone coming at this overly negative tone will seem butt-hurt, yea. Not like you know the numbers he's dealing with either so it's just weird speculation. What I said above should be common knowledge for any business-owner and marketer (especially marketer), and it's actually shocking reading some of the replies in this thread.

He already said that after only getting a handful of orders a day, for the first 2 or 3 weeks since launch, he suddenly got 3,000 orders in two days. From that, one can make some simple estimates.

Will that kind of volume burn out? Probably, after awhile, hopefully after he's made a couple mil. Even if it just ticks along after all the hype is over, at only 100 orders a day, that's better money than most people here make.
 
I was going to help my GF launch a project like this. She wanted to send people black and white cookies, and I was like, "Fuck that, don't send them shit." But she lost interest and I went on with my life.

We were going to try this for EmptyBox.co. A play on all these stupid Box Startups, except we're different because we aren't sending you shit. Pay a fulfillment company to send empty boxes, eat some pasta, go to bed. :eatmousepointer:

True.. but that's referring to marketing methods, traffic leaks, mailing, terms of service restrictions, etc to get an edge.

I understand thats its a good quick money maker, just a silly one at that and my point was there are other ways to bank without being the "gummy bear dick guy"... but to each his own. Now to the claim that this is genius, or will make 2 million dollars? I highly doubt that.

I don't understand this mentality. Whenever something like this pops up you guys say 'it's better to have long-term bank instead of short-term.' But shit like this has such little overhead regarding costs and time, that it doesn't even matter. Money is money, whether you're making 40k in a month before it dries up or 40k/month for a few years down the road. Obviously the long-term income is optimal, but it's also a lot more work.

Like shit, if you make 40k in a month you have money to skate by on while thinking of an idea and launching a long-term strategy with some money to invest. If you can't launch in time bank another 40k doing something stupid and short-term again. Don't discriminate against money.

Fair enough. And you're right, it is silly.

Keep in mind, I said it was brilliant, not genius. A moment of brilliance, a goofy idea, is a far cry from genius. There are much smarter people here doing real work. The brilliance, IMO, is in the simplicity of the idea, that's all. I like easy money, and whether it's 2 mil, or even just a couple hundred thousand at the end of the day, this is about as easy as it comes without winning the lottery.

Yeah and I do get your point, I guess it comes down to personal style. But I do agree, especially if he does clear the 100k from the flippa auction, that it's not a bad payday at all if you have nothing better going on, and don't mind being the guy who's claim to relative success was selling gummy bear dicks online.

Also keep in mind, just like the lottery reference, his odds of this turnout were not great to begin with... that's time and money spent on chasing fly-by-night crass ideas that could be spent on building something long term. For everyone of these stories, there are thousands of silly duds that didn't go anywhere.
