Are Macbook Airs overpriced compared to their Windows-based equivalents? That's a serious question.
I'm thinking of getting an Air. It's $899 + $100 for 4GB extra RAM. Can you think of any Windows laptops that offer the same specs and battery life (up to 12 hrs) at less than 3 lbs.?
I've been looking, but I can't find any that match the reviews I've seen for the Mac Air.
It is really hard to find other laptop with the same exact specs. It usually goes something like - over 3lbs, but much better specs and better price or something like that. It is hard to match every spec by spec. You have to look at the whole picture, if you need it to be spec by spec, it may be hard to find.

The most important aspects for me are weight, battery, RAM and price. I'm looking for a sub-3-lb. machine with 8 GB RAM that can last more than 10 hours under "normal" use (browser + 2 or 3 programs) around $1,000.
The Air seems to hit the mark. I'm still looking for Win machines that can do it.

Yes, this is my biggest source of rage. USB means Universal Serial Bus.
It's right fucking there in the name "Universal" meaning USB 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 can all be plugged into the same port. USB-c is not universal as nothing plugs into it except USB-c. It's another shitty firewire port all over again.
Apple is crapping all over industry standards with proprietary port bullshit and claiming to be leading hardware development. All they're really doing is raping wallets with a non-universal port.
"Universal" has nothing to do with the geometry of the plug, it refers to the serial bus being universally used for any peripheral imaginable.
If laptops are to get thinner, they can't have full sized USB ports. USB type-C is thinner and the plug is reversible, thank fuck. If Apple didn't push for change like this, nobody else will.

Bullshit. A regular sized USB plug is 4mm thick and requires maybe 1mm more of solid support structure top and bottom, thinner than any device save for the very thinnest phones. A micro USB is 2.5mm thick and can be easily accommodated in any device for years to come. Device thinness can only go so far. In addition, a regular sized USB plug is perfectly viable without it's outer housing, and in that case is about 2mm thick. USB-C is completely unnecessary and is simply an opportunity for device manufacturers (primarily Apple) to sell a mountain of $60 adapters.

Actually, after further reading I take back some of what I said. While the above conversation seemed to be about size and some people's inability to plug a USB cable in the right way (derp). The more important points about USB Type-C are it's data transfer speeds and power supply capabilities. It can transfer at up to 20gb/s and can provide 100w of power (vs 5gb/s and 10w for current USB 3 specs). It's the same size as a mini USB 3 plug, so there's no advantage there, but it's much more capable in the data transfer and device charging departments. Of course there's going to still be that painful transition phase as it's not reverse compatible like USB 1-3 was, so there's still going to be a lot of adapters sold.
Don't be blinded by the specs. Firewire had better specs when it was first released too.
This isn't anything that a USB 4.0 couldn't keep up with. Personally, I'd like to see it go that way instead of these special snowflake ports. I've got some USB devices that are over 10 years old and being able to plug them into my computer now or another 10 years from now without a tangled mass of adapters brings me much comfort.
