But everyone sort of gives you this crazy look when you tell them to have food, fuel and water just in case of disaster.

Who's laughing now?

Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia all had major storms go through (As well as other states) and around 60% of Ohio is out of power. Generators were gone a hour or two after the storm and now are selling for 500% over the pre-storm price. People are dying because of the heat, the national guard has been deployed to try and help get power online in Columbus and other areas in the state, but it will be FRIDAY before electricity is back on in many areas.

Now we're looking at more heavy storm fronts coming through with the potential for more damage & tornadoes.

It interests me when people say "You're crazy, someone will take care of me when bad things happen." Now those people are going to have to deal with their lack of planning.

It really should be common knowledge that if FEMA arrives at all, it's no less than 3 days after the disaster.

Maybe they don't like you because you have a houlier than thou attitude as demonstrated in this pompous thread.

Prep Prep Prep. Fuck generators though, don't have one (except a few solar ones for my night vision optics). When shit hits the fan, I'm more than ready. For whatever I don't have, you better hide.... because if I or my daughter needs it, rest assured I'm gonna get it...

Lol, tough gay acts hard till he walks down the hood. Then it's "no sir" and "yes sir" till he can manage to scurry out.

Now cellular data service (2g/3g) is down, voice only calls.

On top of that, credit card processing & debit card processing is down for MANY companies in the area.

I was at the bank and one of the managers of a small gas station was going crazy. They ran out of money to make change and there were mad people at the pumps needing gasoline.

Like he says "Don't be scared, be prepared."

Similar problems here in MD/DC. My brother and friend have been without power since Friday evening. Pepco (an atrocious monopoly of an energy provider) estimates that their neighborhoods will regain power on the 4th or 6th.

We drove 10 miles in each direction for ice, but had zero luck. People were lined up for miles too, waiting for gas, like a bunch of morons.

I, on the other hand, am relaxing in my air-conditioned basement in Virginia (only 30 minutes away from my brother's area) with all the gas and ice I'll ever need.

Suckers.

Still no power in Catonsville for me. This is another bonus to having couches in the office.

Oh god, you pro-created?

Whats wrong w/ that statement? If shit truly hits the fan are you suggesting that you wont do whatever it takes to survive and provide for your family? What he is talking about could become a reality in less than 2 weeks should a major catastrophe strike. Thats when small groups (brothers, neighbors, friends) will start to band together and begin to hunt for their food. If they know that your family has food, they will wait until about 4:00 am and storm your home/shelter and take what they need and kill anyone trying to stop them.

You can keep on believing this could never happen, and wait to see what happens when it does. Or you could start preparing now. If your prepared ahead of time you can at least have a chance
