That list is filled with Software and Hardware companies that are industry leaders in their niche. If I was a top dog (like the companies listed above) and wanted to make it a pain in the ass for competitors to get to the position they are currently in, I would be all for the bill too. These really just want piracy to end, and stand to gain greatly from that fact.

The company that intrigue me on this issue is Google. If the company is required to moderate it's content, Google could legally be shut down if illegal content shows up on it's website for too long. Plus with them owning Youtube, their business would take a huge hit.
 
This is why I'm happy to be a part of the Freeman Movement.

This type of control is just to much. They always want control over something they currently have no control over. They remind me of playground bullies.

They are having a laugh if they think the world will sit back and let this happen. Even if it does, there will be so much uproar and hate.

Then again, the general public will stand up proclaiming "I will fight you" in an effort to follow the crowd but when the wolves come hunting they cower in fear.

People need to stand up and remain standing. Power in numbers. It's not their country, or their world, it's all of ours.
 
Demand Progress now claims they have turned the tide against the bill with over 700k angry emails to Congress.

I hope they pull this out...

yea and look how its all the fucking trend following media spewing garbage fucking sites! Apple, Dell, AVG, Micro$hit(who would have known?) McAfee, Kasperky, all those sites right there have nothing but gains from fucking SOPA, and the only reason is to help it happen and its fucking bullshit! All of these companies are allowing the USA government, congress, SC to stomp all over our fucking 1st amendment, I may be wrong in many different places here but if i want to download a video of a bitch sucking a guy off til he creams all over her face and it not be considered some infringement then I fucking will!

If people want to do even more to stop this shit they should contact the companies supporting these bills and threaten to take away business, etc. Start social media movements against the companies if they don't pull back their support, etc.

I didn't even consider the angle that the software companies might want to take in this thing, but it makes sense for them.
 
Like everything else our government wants to control (ie. ruin) this will be the first step of many in an effort to control something they don't quite understand, and feel poses a threat to their existence. Remember that. These old republicans are scared of the internet, and the power it has. They're scared of the power independent media has on the internet, and tired of the rise of independents such as Ron Paul, who's rise can be mostly credited to internet media.

All they need is the one initial reason for the passing of a new bill and then it only gets easier and easier for them.

Ie. Look at the patriot act. It all started with one terrorist attack and now look at where that got us. Almost every aspect of daily commute changed, but slowly. They pass these things on slowly until you don't even realize wtf happened. It's the quantitative easing of our liberties.

If you have a twitter, fb, youtube, contacts list, whatever, I'd suggest you blast them all about this and let them know to oppose this bill.

Each office is staffed by a live talking person. Call them til they can't take it anymore. Then, call your local senator's office and do the same.


The progression of this Bill can be tracked officially at THOMAS (Library of Congress) , then search stop online privacy act. I'd also search for the "protect ip" bill.

It's a fairly even bipartisan support which this bill enjoys, and the Senate version is the same way. One of the most outspoken opponents of this, Rep. Issa, is Republican. What you should have said is these old politicians, since most of them are thinking about control and how they can benefit their own reelection campaigns.

I wrote my Rep (D) to inform him my vote would be strongly influenced by how this bill is handled. It seems he may not be totally opposed to it although he did ask some questions regarding security consequences of passage in yesterday's hearing.
Of course I neglected to tell him he wouldn't be receiving a vote from me either way. :laughing-smiley-007:

Don't overlook Google though. Everyone with half a brain in business is worried that Google will take all their traffic away if they piss big G off enough. :disgust:

I do believe it would go through though without a strong enough phone/email campaign to everyone's congressmen. Luckily it looks like that is happening right now.
