It's probably worth noting that atheism is not a rejection of religion, but a lack of belief in deities existing. For example, it's possible to be a Hindu or a Buddhist and be an atheist. Atheism, however, is not a religion.
Because you need to believe in heaven like children love to believe in Santa Claus. You need a prize for your life, you need a hope to win your mortality.
IMHO Hawking is not even a scientist but a simple discloser of his own concepts surrounded by smart and greedy marketing people who monetize everything he spits out.
That's a matter of your personal standards.

Atheists are much more annoying, here's why:
Atheists push their views for no gain, other than their OWN. To make them feel good, "superior", "smarter", whatever illusion they may have...who knows.
Christians, at least they have a valid reason behind trying to "impose" their beliefs on you. For example, if you honestly believed in your heart, 100%, without a doubt, that if you didn't give your friends/family/co-workers, etc... information you had, that they would literally burn in hell....wouldn't you try and tell them? Of course you would.
So the difference is that atheists push their beliefs (or non beliefs) for whatever reason, but Christians do it because they believe, literally, that they are trying to save you from burning in hell for eternity.

Religion is a philosophical topic. Science is not. They're fundamentally different discussions.

1. The topic you are clearly responding to is: 'which is more Annoying', not 'what they are motivated by.' In fact the reason that you gave should make the religious MORE annoying simply because they wouldn't stop as soon to those they annoy.
2. All Atheists are pretty sure that there is no afterlife and therefore feel that you have to make the best out of the time HERE in the next few dozen years in that one body you've got now.
Religions may claim they are trying to 'save you' from a bad time, but if there is no afterlife, which is the most scientifically reasonable hypothesis, then Atheists are the ONLY people in fact really trying to 'save you' from the bad time you'll have wasting your one and only lifetime in the pathetic service of unscrupulous conmen.
Luckily for you #1 applies and Atheists aren't at all active about 'saving' anyone.

Since we're going for retarded logic how's this: Christians are much more annoying than Atheists and here's why: Everyone knows Stupidity is a terrible thing. However, because we can not discriminate on the basis of stupidity, people that are stupid still manage to: get elected to office, go to school with your kids, sit on PTA boards, sit on entrance boards at colleges, hire you for jobs...etc.

Thank you for putting so much original thought and analysis into something I have heard 1,000 times. This is what I'm talking about... you can't even be scientific in your assessment of my original thesis. Not once did I mention religion as being better than science. You are now doing what so many people do and breaking it into a religion vs science debate, similar to the left vs right debate politically. Just because I think a lot of what we call science is bullshit doesn't mean that I love religion. Religion is bigger bullshit than science. But science has its fair share of religious bullshit as well.
And I will criticize scientists as intellectual weaklings because that is exactly what most of them are. It's not a bad thing, most people are stupid. Scientists generally are smarter than religious people, but that's nothing to be proud of. That's like being smarter than a dog. Big deal. The vast majority of "scientists" aren't scientific or smart.
Scientists, as well as most people, generally are not thinkers or entrepreneurs. They're analysts. They observe data. They're parrots. They preach what their superiors preach. But they don't think or put it together in most cases. They aren't able to put pieces together and look at the big picture. They are too intellectually weak to estimate accurate conclusions and predictions based off the data at hand. This is why most people are bad investors and poor. They are very bad at predicting the future based off the data, or don't know where to look to get accurate data to begin with. This is the same reason most people think America is in an economic recovery and that everything is okay with our fiat dollar. They aren't cut out for the kind of thinking that separates the men from the little boys. And most scientists are little boys as they will follow fragmented pieces of information and measure pointless things but never be able to actually put it all together and really do something of value. They're parrots just like religious people.
