Peanut Butter - The Atheist's Nightmare

But the fact of evolution is unanimously agreed upon. Why on earth would we stop working on it now. We still have much to learn about it. But we are sure of evolution itself as we are of gravity and atoms.
Sounds like someone here hasn't come to accept that he lives on a shitty little rock where the majority of inhabitants believe in stupid, imaginary things and certainly can't come to any kind of consensus.

This is pure ignorance of what science is. I've been formally trained in science (physics), was a researcher on multiple groups, and have done countless studies and lab work. Evolution is a theory. There is no such thing as a fact when dealing with theory. This means something better could come along eventually and replace it, just like the theory of Gravity. Evolution is the current "most plausible" explanation.

Accepting that evolution is a theory doesn't make you a fundamentalist. At one time, there was a theory that light travelled through a medium called Ether, and at the time it was the most plausible theory, and was widely accepted. Well this got shot to shit real fast with advances in quantum mechanics.

Did you know experiments are still done to try and verify or disprove gravity? Why should evolution be exempt from scientific process like this? If another, more plausible theory comes around, should we totally ignore it and say "NO THAT'S RELIGIOUS BULLSHIT".

Learn science, fuck off.

On his defense, "evolution" is a loose term and therefore can be considered as both theory and fact.

Micro-evolution is a fact.
Macro-evolution is a theory supported by facts.

ie: Viruses aren't going to stop mutating the moment we found god.

Steven Jay Gould said "Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's, but apples did not suspend themselves in mid-air, pending the outcome."

Evolution does have direct evidence to back it up:
Peppered moth evolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are plenty of other studies like this you can find, I would be interested in knowing what you thought was circumstantial here.

Ugh.

The ToE is not just one big theory that's meant to explain everything away. It's a vast interconnected theory with an enormous number of minuscule subsets and concepts that tries to explain every little mechanism of the process as it applies to vastly different species and environments.

The supposed evolution of one particular type of moth does not suddenly justify the entirety of evolutionary theory.

Sometimes I wonder what's worse, a blind religion freak or a blind science freak.

Maybe in the delusional world you live in where you desperately cling to this fantasy that evolution isn't real. Before you spout of your ignorance and try to pass it as a facade of intelligence, you should probably know, excuse my french, what the fuck you're talking about.

A scientific law differs from a scientific theory in exactly one way: A scientific law does not pose or provide a mechanism or an explanation of the phenomena it describes.

Hence, Netwon's Laws of motion are laws because they only describe the mathematical way objects tend to perform. The Theory of Relativity is a theory because it attempts to explain WHY those things move that way.

It has nothing to do with evidence, despite whatever misguided piece of shit books you've been reading and that Youtube University class you've been attending.

You fundamentalists really are a rabid bunch.

The fact is (feel free to contest the definition of fact, I'm up for a chuckle) if Evolution had sufficient direct evidence, mathematical certainty would be within our reach. The fact that we have very little mathematical certainty about the mechanics of evolution (natural selection, for instance) goes to show....

Yep, you guessed it! Insufficient evidence!

I bathe in your scientific rage. Rawr.

^^^ King. are you just pulling this info out of your ass.

You really think religion or belief in an afterlife is somehow a wall to advanced studies.

Rusky, I remember having this same argument with you this same day a year ago.

All I have to say this time is,

YOU WERE RIGHT!

Christianity is the best religion in the world and thank you Jesus for everything you have blessed us with!!! Halleluyah!!! I'm savedd!!

Sorry but don't you mean that Christianity is the only true religion???? How can you talk in terms of best or worst, surely there is only one truth and all the other hundreds (or thousands) or religions are wrong.

Just because doctors or scientists are of a certain religion doesn't therefore follow that the religion itself is a help or hindrance to science. You guys (including the video) are coming up with a sequence that is not logical at all and are making very big (wrong) leaps in assumptions.

Who cares.

Get rich bang bitch, jade emperor style.

Religious threads are troll haven.

It's crazy how this thread has morphed over the posts. Here I am posting on page three and I have yet to watch the video in the OP, but I did get in a discussion on evolution earlier. Is the video even about evolution?

Some might say it has... evolved.

WAIT! - PROOF! - I HAVE FOUND PROOF OF EVOLUTION!

TAKE THAT YOU CHRIST-LOVERS! :music06:

(Thanks to writtenstyle for setting me up on that one...)

Your theory argument is a red herring. Evolution could very well be called "the Law of evolution" if it didn't consist of so much speculation with only circumstantial evidence, rather than direct evidence to back it up.

God fucking damnit. A law is not stronger than a theory in science. A theory is a summary of a verified hypothesis developed from supporting evidence. A law is a generalized body of observations that can often be expressed as an equation.

They are two different things. Did you make it past middle school?

For everyone's sake please go read these:

Scientific Laws, Hypotheses, and Theories - The Scientific Method
Scientific Hypothesis, Theory, Law Definitions

We can't even have a real debate on things, you don't even know what the fucking words mean.

Evolution is no longer a theory, it's a fact.

AHHHHHHHHHHH

Did that moth ever change into a fish, a lizard, or a bird?

But they've always been viruses right?

Just sayin.

How do you know they've always been viruses?

I was a monkey before I evolved into an affiliate marketer.

Illustration below as evidence to my claim:

Did that moth ever change into a fish, a lizard, or a bird?

Someone asked for an example of evolution and it was given. What happens when 1000's or 1000000000's of small changes like this happen after each other?

I find it amazing that if someone accepts the moth example then they couldn't take that to the extremes and see how different species could evolve.

But they've always been viruses right?

Wrong.

LOL @ everyone in here actually arguing about religion.

There is no point in arguing with someone who believes in god / Jesus / the bible --- Just sell them some Acai weight loss pills because they will believe anything.

What took you so long BlueJamm.

But there's no fundamental change in the DNA code. Say scale turns to feather.
Moth stays a moth. We now have thousands of dog breeds, but they're no fundamental change.

Is that really you're argument. Must be shallow in there.
