trillian , it has a nice clean look does what I want an not what I dont want (anoying smillies and stuff)

Skype actually seems pretty cool. "free" calls skype to skype. cheaper rates skype to tradional phones.

I'm actually looking at it as a replacement for my normal phone which costs me around $100/month to have and use

I'm using Skype instead of my local phone for 3 months now, very cheap and no problems if you have a broadband connection.
Yeah the reason I would do that is to ditch my land line phone. The problem is I need the phone line to have ADSL which means I still need to pay the "line rental" fee. Thats hte fee that is often more expensive than the actual calls made.

I'm looking at wireless broadband now too. Without that moving fully to skype is useles. It would be good if skype offered Australian numbers too.

Never really use any, but am about to download Trillian and give it a try.
Trillian in iteself isn't an IM. It's a means to have multiple IM's running from the one interface. So you still need an MSN account or an AIM acount or whatever. Instead of having individual programs running you just run trillian instead.
