i'm interested..how safe is xrumer these days tho? is there good chance site will get banned still? should the site we use be on its own throw away host?

It's a tool. What happens with it depends on how you use it.

It is very dangerous and very safe.
 
^why take the risk? point all those links at a some high PR parasitic hosting (squidoo, hubpages, other shit) and then drop links off those at your time and money intensive site your worried about.

Or maybe it doesn't fucking matter. Try it and see.
 
By pointing all of the links to another page/site, some of the pr will be passed on to me through the link from that page, but i'll still only have one link with one anchor from one domain. This is no good for keyphrase ranking, irrelevant of pr. I'm wondering if there's a safe way of using xrumor to link directly to my site. Has anybody on here had any direct experience of getting de indexed, or not de indexed after using xrumor?
 
^Right. I meant Squidoo, Hubpages and like 20-30 other parasitic hosts. Still not enough links for what you're looking to do, but Xrumer blasts shouldn't be your full linking strategy, IMO.

To how many blogs/forums do you blast for $30 and what is your success rate?
