WTF is wrong with internet speeds in the USA????

If you're Canadian and you use Telus, they have lousy dns servers.
Switch to opendns on your router and the internet will seem faster because it won't take 5-10 sec to resolve domain name to IP addresse.
OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet (it's free)

I use 128.100.100.128 which is a DNS server operated by UofT.

OpenDNS will still do the ad BS if you don't disable it. 128.100.100.128 just doesn't have it. There's also 4.1.1.1 and 4.2.2.2.

I'm in Portugal. There's no such thing as a 1Gigbyte/s option here. I do have a 100 Mb/s fiber optic connection (65 euros/month) and a 21,6 Mb/s mobile broadband connection (50 euros/month), but this kind of connections aren't avaliable in some areas. Most people here only have 12Mb or 24Mb ADSL2 connections.

I assume you are on Telefonica? Did you get the recent upgrade to 6mb? It was supposed to have happened months ago but it's not available in the urbanization I am in. Where do you live?

yes i am on telefonica,i am on mallorca and no,no update in sight yet :(
and based on my experience with telefonica,we still have a long way to go...
what a shit company

After all fvaldes wasn't completely wrong about the 1Gb/s internet speed here in Portugal. I just have been informed by my internet provider that I'm eligible for the 200mb/s and 1Gb/s options that they are going to launch next month.

Yeah!!!
