personally I find the whole "the USA is a big country so we can't have fast speeds" is a load of shit. Fuck the midwest and the south. If you live in a major U.S. city you should be able to get 100MB. Rural area can come later. The telcos are just dragging their feet.
It's not the cost either, if cost was an issue they would have just charged more for access. Even if 100mb/s was $250/mo, I'd bet they would sell their service like hotcakes.

I have 24mbits and it includes a wireless hdbox that besides acting like a normal box it can play your videos from computer to your tv. it also comes with 5000GB (5TB) of space in the net where you can ask it to record any tv show at any given time and play it back later on with your hdbox and the 24mbit connection. You can also rent movies through it, but i've never used that shit. This combination costs 38€ per month.
If you dont want the crap that i just tried to described above, you can just get a 100mb connection for the same price 39€ per month.

When I came here it was 1 or 2mb, and I've been on 3mb forever when they graciously upped it to that as some sort of country wide upgrade. It's supposed to go up to 6mb as another free for everyone upgrade but unfortunately 6mb isn't available in my area.
FiOS doesn't have a 100Mbps package - maxes out at 50Mbps down here. In reality though, you can't pull more than that from most websites (excluding places using CDNs or large server clusters). I've got FiOS w/ 20Mbps down and 5Mbps up, and I could pay another $10/month for 25/15 (I don't think it's worth it, though - I rarely work with video editing anymore).
Also, Comcast keeps upping their speeds w/their DOCSIS 3.0 rollout, so you can get about 16-20Mbps down standard in about 50% of their markets right now.

NextG in Australia has mobile wireless @ 8mbit, works everywhere, even remote places. in trains, cars everywhere. doesnt drop out like every other shitty wireless device in every other country.
