I'm curious on everyone's thoughts as to whether or not this social juggernaut will go the way of the dinosaur eventually, or will they continue to buy up competition and technologies outright to always remain relevant?

Hi! I don't think that facebook is going to die for atleast 15 years. There are many reasons for the same. Firstly as internet is touching more and more people across the world, the platform is going to see rising trend in participation. Facebook is a crucial marketing tool used by all businesses extensively. A major chunk of online/digital marketing depends on it.
It is an important website as far as domain authority is concerned and hence plays a crucial role in SEO as well.
Lastly, it is an ideal platform for connected with B2C customers and B2B leads and clients.

Hope it helps!

No likely since FB has become more than a hub for social interaction. Although we know that this site is created to build and re-establish connections, business have also taken advantage of FB in promoting their products and services online.

Moreover, affiliate marketers like me have also make use of this channel to introduce the offers being displayed in OfferDaddy's offerwall to prospect clients. So overall, facebook will be a relevant site at least in the next few years to come...:)

Scientists argue that, like bubonic plague, Facebook will eventually die out. The social network, which celebrates its 10th birthday on 4 February, has survived longer than rivals such as Myspace and Bebo, but the Princeton forecast says it will lose 80% of its peak user base within the next three years.

According to me, Facebook will survive. It has made very interesting acquisitions say example like WhatsApp messenger. The management is very alert of new changes in the world. So i think all these factors make Facebook can survive for longer periods of time.

People will always fall for the new & interesting thing. So, If anything come to overlap FB then definitely it will be at the top.

Facebook is not likely to die anytime soon. If it was going to die, its time would've come to an end with other online social communities like myspace, orkut etc. The fact that it survived that apocolypse makes it less likely to die anytime soon now.

The reason in my opinion is that almost everyone on this planet is registered with facebook, all of its competition uses facebook also.

And how we use social media has changed after the demise of facebook's competition. And it's much to do with how facebook has evolved ever since.

I don't think Facebook will die soon. Currently it's the largest social media network on the internet. Their users are now over 1 billion and it's increasing day by day. Beside they're the free and largest community for people engagement, they're running an ads system that can support users in their business on advertising and branding. So that they will not die at least on the next 5 - 10 years. I think so.

Facebook’s popularity among teens and young adults is dropping consistently, year after year, yet they’re constantly trying to introduce new functionality and unearth new streams of revenue.

Facebook isn’t taking this drop in popularity lying down. They’re listening to their users and are striving to make meaningful changes to the business and to the platform. In time, these changes could help sustain Facebook as a long-term player like Google or Apple, but they could also be the last-ditch efforts of a company doomed to irrelevance.

Facebook is still one of the best social networking in the word, so I think it not yet to die soon, and if that happens, there will be a lot of alternatives will appear, so don't worry about it, oke?

why? do you wanna go to its funeral (JK)
its not a near future thing anyways.(they are buying all there competitors:$1billion for instagram and $19billion for whats app). Nicola Mendelsohn the vice president of Facebook's, last year speech tells there are already plans for facebook to stay in the top of the internet. As there plan they gonna concentrate more on Video contents because for live video feature users responds are massive.so they believe that their future is secure
atleast for 5-10 years i think but by that time new tech brains will come with much better social networking as the technology is growing .so not more than 10 years but for that others have to start working now and try not sell there work to facebook.
