Wickedfire Travel Thread

If you travel and you're American just tell people you're Canadian.

Kind of kidding, but not really.

Yup. Just gotta learn to speak the language eh? :D It can backfire though...some countries despise Canadians since we're too polite and irrationally apologetic. Just avoid being a Canadian when you travel Eastern Europe...or in the USA!

You guys must be complete fucking retards if you run into trouble because of your nationality. Over the past 4 years of living aboard, the only issue I've had with being American is a Frenchman who wanted to skullfuck George Bush. Make an effort not to be a jackass and noone will care where you're from.

x2. Seriously. (and not just in the countries you've bombed)

Might not be such a good idea, because some people can tell the difference between a Canadian and American, especially in tourist areas. I'll never forget one time at a pub in Scotland. There was a guy in there telling everyone he's Canadian. I guess after a while the waitress got tired of his lies, so started screaming at him, and ripped into him pretty good. "You're not bloody Canadian! You're American! blah, blah...". Was pretty funny. :)

Photos from Peru & Brazil

Just took down Colombia, Peru & Brazil 3 weeks ago. Highly recommend seeing Machu Picchu in Peru and if you are rugged enough, do the Inca trail on the way in (takes 4 days and you need to book months in advance). Since the trip was a little more spontaneous, we had to take the train into Machu Picchu instead.

These are photo's I personally took with my wife in Peru and a few from the slums we visited in Rio De Janerio, Brazil also called "Favelas". In the Favela we visited, it was 100% run by organized crime, no police presence. We weren't allowed to take photos from street level at anyone's face. Just one of the many rules that are strictly enforced.

Anyone ever do a long stay in South America? I'm looking to move at the end of the year - maybe Argentina, Peru or Brazil and am looking for some insight/resources for visas and stuff. I'm hitting up all the embassies, but would rather hear from affiliates who've done something similar.

I've lived in Costa Rica (8 years) and Panama (1 year). I like Latin America over Asia partly because I speak Spanish, and don't feel like such a tourist. I've been to to Thailand as well - that was about 2 years ago. I loved it and stayed for a month. I visited mostly the islands. I'd definitely go back, it's a beautiful place.

I've never been to Europe though. I'd love to check out Greece, Italy and some other places.. but its not high up on my list. I prefer Asia & South/Central America

I just got back from Cuba under a licensed US citizen , if anyone is interested in photos pm me :)

Cost of living and decent internet.

You can easily live off $20 a day in thailand and eat out for all your meals + get fairly decent internet. Any idiot can pull down $20/day in adsense revenue so it's a pretty decent option for a lot of people.

If you're willing to spend a bit more then you can get some extremely nice beach front villas/apartments and eat like a king.

When I travelled there a bit more than a year ago, I spent something like $2k during a one month period and probably 80% of that was spent on booze/binge drinking.

This thread has made me long for some nicer weather, maybe I'll check out where is going to be nice in a few months time and take a trip to get out of this horrid melbourne weather.
$2k for all expenses? wtf that is cheap as fuck

I'm thinking of taking up smuggling hash out of Turkey. I'll keep you guys posted.. .

Spent ove 2 years travelling round Australia, NZ, Thailand, malaysia, cambodia, singapore, laos, vietnam and india. Planning a 3rd year long trip hopefully this year to either indonesia, south america or soutern India.
If anyone has any recommendations for somewhere to live for 3-6 months, must be near a beach with wifi and have good weed and be cheap, let me know ;)

That's funny because you guys have done the same.

LOL.

haha. 99% can't though :p as long as you don't go on about being Canadian too much, it would be fine :p

Cyprus, Hong Kong, Bali would definitely be places to visit.

Cyprus has casinos, clubs, terrific weather, good tax rules for offshoring.

Hong Kong has vibrant life style, tons of attaractive women of every nationality (mostly looking for husbands from Asia or your wallet if they are from South America) and it is no more than 4 hours away from most other countries in Asia so travel with one central hub it would have to be Hong Kong.

Bali has gorgeous weather, great massage, some terrific hotels and sunsets to die for.

The thing I would say though is if you are going to travel, then travel. If you are going to work, then stay at home, the two don't go very well together.

Since quitting my job and being full-time self employed in Sept 1, I've been to Amsterdam, Interlaken, Munich (Oktoberfest), Southern China (Guangzhou), Hong Kong, Macau, Austin TX, Vegas, home to Ohio twice, and then a surf trip to Panama and Costa Rica wedding.

Here's a video I took from the Panama Surf:

(that's me filming)

I love my fucking life. No more travel for a bit though, it's summertime and I don't want to leave the beach except for little CA camping trips

OMG you are my hero. I've been to CR and Panama but you own. I seriously need a way to do that. Where do I begin?
