WickedFire & Sylmark $6k Revenue Contest!!

Alright guys, I just spent about 45 mins on the phone with a very sick Joel. I didn't really feel bad for him either because he got sick due to the fact that he was at the Super Bowl sitting in the semi-cold weather, but poring rain for hours. That's the only reason why he hasn't been at work or around, and said he will try his hardest to come onto here on Thurs or Friday to iron everything out.

I addressed all of the questions and complaints people wrote here, and he gave me the answers you guys are looking for, so everything should be okay. If you need to speak with him before you get rolling, just because he is in charge of the affiliate program at Sylmark, I understand and don't blame you, but for everyone else who isn't as picky and just wants to start trying to win the contest, go do what you need to do. I will also try and get him to throw in some more prize money to make up for the lack of support on this contest. My next post will outline the answers.

Joel said the following:

1- All terms are negotiable for WickedFire members only, just so long as you are not committing any type of fraud or spam.

2- You are allowed to use your own sites, designs, landing pages. He will also get his designers to make new ones specifically for WickedFire contest affiliates if you cannot make your own.

3- He wasn't so much against using TM product terms, but said he would make a final decision with it when he gets back into the office.

4- Banners, text, buttons, any image creatives, you can create your own and use them for your promotions, they just have to be manually approved by Joel first (He said just make sure they are tasteful and not bashing the product -- something I would do).

5- There are NO phone numbers on affiliate pages, just the regular ones without the affiliate link.

6- When he comes back there is a very good chance that he will give you other links so you can in a sense create a white label site of your own and just link directly to the credit card form.

7- Anyone using email must be approved by him first. You must use some supression list and all mailings must be CAN-SPAM compliant (they are a CA based company, so they'll be very strict about this).

8- As far as the rules/terms go, you can really do whatever you want, just so long as you are not doing something illegal, making the company or it's products look bad, or screwing with the Trademarks (that will be discussed when he's back). Everything else is completely fine.

Any other questions? I have a pretty good idea where he stands and what the rules are, as they are going to be VERY lax for the contest affiliates only.

My apologies for this not starting off on the right foot, but this is just a fluke in a sense (seems to be a WF regularity). From the people that have already started though, Joel sounded pretty happy about the stats that he saw from his phone. He said people were already doing some good conversion rates, although could be better, but he said it seemed to be off to a really good start for the most part.

Everything that WF makes from this is going to be used towards future contests on the forum and promotions, so even if you don't win, you're helping out the community out too (zero profit from this, and every contest, seriously).

Will these terms for WF members be ongoing, or just for the duration of the contest?

i.e. If I go and put the work into creating a site that uses my own creatives, links directly to the CC form, etc., will that be useless after the contest is over, or can I continue to use it?

Thanks for the clarifications as well.

Ongoing just so long as you reg'ed for the contest first.

Also, he is going to raise the payouts when he gets here for everyone from WF.

Geeezzzz, you guys are nuts

You guys are one hell of a crowd. I am glad I am not a stand up comedian because you guys are the ultimate hecklers!!!

Jon – Yes, I went to the Super Bowl (Go Colts and the under), but you can still feel bad for me as I have 102 fever.

Let me bring up a few points, and as soon as I am able to stay out of bed for more than 5 minutes without falling over my computer, I will try and be more active throughout the contest.

Firstly, let me introduce you to Sylmark. We have been in business for over 10 years, and did over 1 billion in sales on the TV. We do all “as seen on TV products” Before I got here, there was absolutely no internet presence. I got here, and had to run everything. Things were getting hectic, and I was about to explode. I recommended to the senior management that we hire a person to help me with this task of trying to build an internet presence. We recently hired Colin MacLean who has extensive internet background to run the internet department, so I can focus just on the affiliate program.

Some of the WF members here have earned thousands of dollars in commissions monthly, and a select couple (I won’t say any names) earns over 6 figures a month.

OK – some bullet points – then I am back into bed!!!

PPC – do whatever you want, as long as you are under our own PPC campaigns. These include affiliate ID # 10099, and 12889, and 13159. Please do not outbid us, as this will really mess up the market!!!

800 numbers – When sent to the site with an affiliate link – there is NO 800 number or retail locater anywhere on the site.

Building your own creative for the landing pages – Knock yourself out!!!

Someone in the thread said that “I also noticed their online distributors are selling some of the exact same products for $10-$20 less. Hard to stay competitive.” These are not distributors, these are usually knockoffs, and if you send me the links to their sites, we can usually have our legal dept take action right away. The true distributors have to be in accordance with MAPP pricing.

Deep Links – sure you can – just add onto the source. If you want to go directly to the order page – here is a sample:

Code:
 miracleblade.com/?page=order_form&src=affiliate&aid=11111&subid=WF

I’m Ignoring Emails – I've been sick like a dog, as soon as I am able to, I will respond to everyone.

Now STOP bitching, and go sell. It seems like the quiet ones here are the ones already making money!!!

Alright, there you have it. You brought the sick man out of bed to give final approval answers for you. Now let's see who rocks and who is full of shit.

i am getting the 800 number as well when I go to the order page, when I go to the main page i dont.

I will send this to my programmer ASAP.

FYI: Only 1.9% of the users call the 800 number anyway, so it shouldnt be such a deterrent.

The Suit Speaks

Colin here. Thanks all for your participation in this first ever WickedFire "Burn Down the House" contest (like that Jon? WickedFire? Burn down the house? That's 20 years of marketing experience....we do that kinda shit every day)

First off, yeah, Joel's sick as a dog. We all are. The whole fucking office is filled with hucked loogies on the walls and carpet everywhere...got 138 Therapure air purifiers running 24/7 just to keep up (note: a fine Sylmark product with a great payout; you should all be selling hard for us). And Joel's got twins at home and I got triplets, all sick...wah wah wah...so fuck off if we don't hold your hands through this contest every damn step of the way! lol)

Now, to the good stuff. We of course are happy to have you not only enter this contest, but make serious cash with us indefinitely. Yeah, some of our sites need a few tweaks here and there, but in general, they convert really well.

As for our support, you won't find a better partner than in Joel. He's the best. All he wants to do all day is help you make money. He's that kinda guy. But he has parameters that I, the miserable suit, restrict him with. So be easy on the TM shit, and just basically don't fuck up our own marketing efforts, and I'm sure Joel will be happy to see what level of creativity you will rise to.

Lastly, for the person who asked, no, I didn't come from zenmed. Admittedly, my chief strengths--and the reason I came to the company--are strategic growth initiatives outside of affiliate marketing. This is why Joel and I work so well together. I know he's a rock star at this part of our business, so I stay out of his fucking way and let him do his job.

And if this little tidbit of my background interests you--and I'm sure it doesn't unless it makes you money (right Mikey?)--I spent three years heading up ecommerce for Univision Television, and six years before that heading up all online for Sony PlayStation North America. In short, I'm great at what I do, but I'm not yet great at what you all do. Joel is. So treat him nice, and he'll treat you nice, and we'll all meet for a Guinness one day. Brilliant!

So YOU'RE the one that fucked up Playstations Online!

Nah...just kidding. :p

Nice I think I will join this contest.

Question? Are we allowed to bid on "product brand names"?

What I can understand, yes.

PPC – do whatever you want, as long as you are under our own PPC campaigns. These include affiliate ID # 10099, and 12889, and 13159. Please do not outbid us, as this will really mess up the market!!!

So just don't outbid their own ads.

This might be a stupid question, but what's the easiest way for us to know if we're outbidding them, especially given all the quality score bs factors and everything?
