Who to invest with?

It depends on the type of trading you want to do. If you are planning to actively trade then in might be wise to go with ScottsTrade or Etrade.

But if you are planning for a more long-term approach (which I hope you are) then you can try your bank. For example, I use RBC, the fees are a hell of a lot higher $35 per trade but since I'm not actively trading it doesn't matter. Also it helps when you want to cash in and move your funds.

Exactly. The IPO is probably already all sold. You won't be getting into it. Some banks will have X amount of shares to sell to investors which are most likely sold as well.

Same story as Groupon.

By the time the stock hit the market it already had dropped 10 points. You can still make money but buying low / selling hi, but how do you know when?

The point is that the initial investment from major banks is so big that they heavily determine the price of the stock. Usually they have to hold onto the stock for 30 days, but if the stock drops and they sell, it drives the price down pretty fast. Kinda risky, the first few days.

ThinkorSwim is great but the biggest reason to go with TD Ameritrade is commission-free buying/selling of over 100 ETFs. This is great if you plan on value-cost averaging at all.. otherwise the commissions can add up.

They have the highest quality commission free ETFs out there IMO.

I'm interested in getting into the stock market, but I cannot decide on what company I should use to help me trade. The popular ones I've seen were: etrade, scottrade, sharebuilder and tdameritrade.

For any of you that have been trading, can you please recommend what site I should use. Would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Send me a PM, I work with this company that gives me 7.5% on every vetted investment lead I can send them.

edit: shit, wrong sales pitch.

I meant to say that I know this guy that can give you a great investment deal, PM me.

Hello friend,

I use Scottrade, have been for 4 years or so now. No complaints thus far.. seemed like the best option when I first signed up, but haven't looked elsewhere in a long time now.
