Where would you live if not in the US?

I'm on your side on this one; but you should know that when I'm in BKK I always connect at 100 MBPS, over ten times faster than I can here in Kansas City.

To be fair the last time I've been in BKK was like 4 years ago and I am more familiar with Koh Samui than I am with BKK. It's definitely possible that there have been some huge improvements in Internet connectivity there. China had some HUGE improvements in its Internet infrastructure in the past few years, though it's not quite at the level of HK yet.

Though one thing I should caution though is just because you connect at 100 MBPS doesn't mean you'll get 100 MBPS of international bandwidth. It may simply mean you get 100 megabits with sites located in Thailand while the international link itself is slow and congested.

If you ever swing by to HK I'll buy you a beer!

Sorry but this is gross exaggeration. HK is no more filthy than any other major urban center. Every city has their own Nathan Road, and to be quite honest it's NOT really filthy. I go through Nathan road all the time so I have no idea what the fuck you're even talking about.

I think what you mean by "filthy" is that you don't like having the Indian fake Rolex watch hawkers hassle you because YOU consider them filthy.

There are places in Bangkok FAR more filthy. Hell I remember there were cracks and completely uneven pavement in Bangkok, while in HK there isn't that problem.

Then either you're one broke fucker or you don't know how to shop around because you're a clueless tourist.

Though it's true that the high property costs makes everything more expensive. However TO MY STANDARDS I do not find the food particularly expensive here, neither do I find other things like electronics all that expensive either.

These costs are more or less the same as that they were back in the US. It's not going to compare to Bangkok though, but Bangkok has shit infrastructure. Sorry but I don't want to be stuck with a 500Kbps DSL connection.

The business environment here is excellent and there are very few regulations that I have to deal with here compared to back in the US.

No shit, it's pretty obvious.

With Nathan Rd I think he is talking about the so called mansions, chunking and the other one, forget the name. They are pretty damn dirty inside, I stayed there once in a hostel.I remember I had just got to HK and I was in the elevator going up to the hostel in Chungking mansion when a Pakistani got in and offered to sell me cocaine. Probably the seediest area in Hong kong, but nothing compared to what you would find elsewhere. However the area around them is fine, plenty of stuff to do around there too. Also great Indian food.

If he thinks the mansions are bad, I can't imagine what he'd think of a city like New Delhi.

Plus I've see seedier and dirtier places in BKK.

Yeah the mansions definitely are infamous in HK, but it's not like there's filth sprawled all over Nathan Road.

I would agree that if you go INSIDE one of the mansions, that they're kinda on the dirty side, but if he thinks that's one of the dirtiest places he's seen then it's pretty obvious he hasn't seen much of the developing world which is FAR worse.

LOL, I just finished watching the Century of the Self BBC miniseries recently, and the fourth episode (below) was all about Tony Blair and why he did what he did. (Bill Clinton, too.) I take it you're one of the old Labour party then? Before he gave it a "Facelift?"

Anyway, this problem you hate about the UK is far worse in the US, and is spreading throughout the civilized world like a Cancer that has no cure. -Your new government can't do a damn thing to stop it; it's simply every human's fate.

I'm not one of the old Labour party... I am in no way socialist. I dislike every political party in the UK. In fact I hate politics. I hate being told what to do and how to act. I hate rules. I hate Laws (blair added, on average something like 3000 new laws a year). I hate knowing the UK government holds more data on its citizens than North Korea. I hate that the only Governments on the planet who hold more information on it's populace are China and Russia.

I hate that all our email is read, that all out activities are watched, that we have more QUANGOs than you can shake a stick at. That they cost us an arm and a leg (billions and billions) and do little beyond billing the government for millions to compile a pointless report to say the sky is blue. (Yes, I know it's not actually blue papajohn! ;) )

For the record, I also don't care how much worse or not it is in the US, because I'm from England... :D

Oh and I don't doubt there's nothing we can do to change it, apathy rules thanks to the way we're ran and the laziness it's aided.
