So I talked with hitpath and found out what the problem is. It's not the DB writes from what they're saying it's the Geo Lookup which is slowing the process down. They're making some changes to the backend which should help hopefully

Good to know that the db writes are quick like they should be. If it's the Geo lookup that's the problem, that shouldn't be too hard to fix - I can think of a dozen ways to speed up a geo lookup, so I have a feeling that this won't happen again (hopefully).
