What does it take to be ultra-successful?

I think it's just work. That's the dirty secret to becoming rich that most don't talk about. Unless you inherit the money you're probably going to have to work damn hard to become truly wealthy.

Theres a lot to be said for that

I think that we all have desire. Desire for money and freedom from the 9-5 are probably the biggest driving forces for all of us. I think that some people are just lucky.
That almost sounds like the wrong drive though. That might be why most give up before making big money. A lot of people just hear about an easy way to make a ton of money and give it a shot. When they find out it actually takes a lot of time, research and hard work just like anything else... they give up and go look for the next "get-rich scheme".

Yeah, but I don't think that it is all about hardwork either. I know a lot of people who work their asses off and still don't make a cent. They have the desire and the work ethic, but lady luck just isn't giving them a break.

"Work is of two kinds:", says Bertrand Russell, "first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so. The first kind is unpleasant and ill paid; the second is pleasant and highly paid."

Heh, that's a amusing quote. It enforces the "work smart, not hard" technique. I personally like to work smart and hard... when either one works, think what you can accomplish with both of them.

Yepp, they make a great combination. I usually just try to work smart, but it doesn't work nearly as well

Sorry but I definitely don't think luck has anything to do with it. Don't let yourself be fooled into thinking you just haven't got your lucky break yet because then you stop looking at what you need to do to improve.

If someone is working as hard as possible and still not making a cent then they need to take a fresh look at what they are doing instead and take responsibility for it instead of blaming bad luck.

Everyone here has an answer but how many of those that answered happen to be one of the big guys?
Hah, I feel ya man. That's kinda what I was looking for when I started the thread. I'm still waiting for Jon or Lee to chime in... hint hint.
