WF Developer Competition

Update number 2: just fired up my hand built ide and created a new repository in my custom proprietary version control system. Just need to plug in my secret scratch built framework and we're off to the races

Update #4: Gotta take a break, Need to go to the store and work on another project for a bit. Will be back on later today.

Update #1

- Spent not enough time thinking about what I was going to do before jumping in
- Wasted ages over-complicating things and going round in circles
- Got annoyed
- Went for a surf

So that's an official fail from me

Update #5: grabbed a small php class to pull and parse RSS, seems to be working fine, will pull 3-4 different urls / types to make sure everything is working.

Also got beer

lastRSS by chance? That's what I grabbed at least. :)

I'm almost done here. Hang tight.

I get the feelin' you're all gonna smash my entry, but I went for the get it done asap. Probably didn't pay off ;)

Mine was rolling along fine until heroku decided to shit the bed and not let me login. This is my first project with AngularJS, and while it's very simple, I'm incredibly impressed by it. I'm going to take a break for a few hours but will get back to it later.

Update: I'm in the process of using a bunch of 3rd party shit I have no control over and can't modify / evolve, with hopes none of it goes down, and should be done soon.

Update #6: getting tired and drunk, Category creation and RSS subscription is working, system will not allow multible RSS feeds to be created, just subscribes users to that feed ID if it already exists. Working on cron job function right now that pulls all subscription URL's go get all the latest posts, put them in the DB and then users can pull if they are subscribed to that feed, and sort by all or their own cat's.

Ok, good enough, and I'm done. Didn't get everything I wanted done, but that's ok. Started at 4pm yesterday, currently 8:30am, so 16.5 hours. Not sure, but say 8 hours devel time, as that's what I'd put if I was invoicing for this.

Unfortunately no documentation, which I was hoping to have done, but just isn't going to happen today. Great theme and template engine though, and can be easily modified by any designer. Due to an issue that cropped up today due to recent modifications, I can't offer installs on your own server until tomorrow, as there's some work on the dependency checks I need to do first.

Public registration and client area should be pretty straight forward. As for the admin panel, you're just going to have to find your own way around for now. Only non-standard aspect of that is the Settings->RSS Feeds menu, which allows you to define the limitations of each account type. If wanted, account types can be defined via Settings->Account Settings->Account Types menu.

Anyway, that's all from me for now.

Yeah, my fault for making last minute changes. Deleted my post right when I seen it, hence why yours is now above now. :)

Working fine now.

Anyway, I'm off...

Update #7: Ok I may have taken this contest a little too seriously, I've logged screenshots every few hours of progress, from design to xHTML, to coding. I've probably put in around 9 hours so far, and it's about 80% complete. I've tested 5-6 feeds all but 1 worked.

Gotta setup cron job and right now only the "All" filter works, just need to setup only showing one, not hard but I'm tired as hell.

Can we call this a 24 hours of total dev time project? haha jk.

Oh how this thread is making me love rails more.

Alright, it may be a little heavyweight for some things and a little extreme on the resources, but damn does it make development fast.

Uh huh, but you're going to shit your pants when you see my build.
