Seriously. It's going to be anarchy. Get your food supplies, weapons and bunkers at the ready. This is gonna be bad!.

OH NO! I won't be able to get a fucking passport for the next several weeks, maybe.

best case scenario: We go without .gov for a weeks and don't miss them. That will pave the way for a conversation a few years from now about their legitimacy .... people will look back and say "yeah, I remember when .gov shut down last time, life went on".

I went through the Tennessee Gov't shutting down first hand and nobody missed a beat.

I just got back from a wedding. Before the ceremony, everyone was boozing. On the way in, everyone set their drink on the fence outside the beautiful little ceremony area in the woods.

No one told them to leave their drink outside, and there certainly was no law prohibiting them from bringing their drink inside, but since they didn't want everyone to think they were an asshole, they took it upon themselves to leave the booze outside. Even I, who really, really, would have preferred to bring my booze in, left it outside due to the social pressure.

This is basically how things will work without government.

Too bad they won't actually "shut down."

A more likely scenario: we go without elected rulers for a few weeks without a hitch. People fail to notice, as one might fail to notice being well until a flu strikes. When the time comes to elect rulers, they head to the polls again and repeat the process.

The idea that life without rulers might be fine never occurs to them.

The sequester was supposedly doomsday as well. and H1N1, SARS, Bird flue, Y2k, its all terrifying.

I guess ill start welding spikes to the front of my snowplow.

No doubt it won't directly lead to immediate anarchy, it will however warm the people up a little bit to the thought.

Surely this scenario could never have occurred without rulers.

Save your lies, brother. I am not easily fooled.

Too bad they won't actually "shut down."

Shutting down would be inconsistent with their self-interest. It would be akin to John Gotti shutting his organization down years ago.

Perhaps. Most voters are logically inconsistent. Logic is a stranger to them. Their opinions are based on emotion and feelings, and as such they are unable to make simple connections.

For example:

Anarchist: "What do you think of violence outside self-defense?"

Statist: "It's wrong."

Anarchist: "What do you think of the use of coercion to force one to do something against his will."

Statist: "It's wrong."

Anarchist: "Yet you vote for rulers who use coercion and the threat of violence to collect taxes. Please reconcile this for me."

Statist: "haha. That's silly."

Inb4 .gov shuts down services people actually use ie..white house tours, passports, ect. While doubling down on services (men with guns, spying) we don't

i care but the thing is everything is a load of monkey shines and games with the federal government. everything is a bluff and a publicity stunt so the general public has got to the point of " oh yeah this song and dance again" they claim they are going to do something but sit on their hands and dick around while trying to act tough.
