anyway, i just want to know, does this mean postal mail stops too?
 
nah, the postal service runs off the money it makes - it's self sustaining

planning a hike into a national park this weekend....hopefully they don't close the roads leading into it this saturday : /
 
On the tax side it means:

1. If you owe Uncle Sam money you still have to pay it on time.

2. If you are owed money by Uncle Sam, well... don't hold your breath.
 
i'm absolutely clueless as to why it's happening and what the benefit is. haven't watched the news in quite awhile.
 
It appears it does somewhat come down to the PP dispute. Here's a good example of why I rage at the absolute fucking ignorance revolving around the issue:

If you are expecting a refund, and you e-file, you should still get it on time. The delay will be for the manual processing of returns.

Thanks for posting that link; it's really interesting to see what the government deems as important, and in what order.

Look no further than this list to see exactly who controls this country... Here's a hint: Offshore drilling and other Corporation-needed activities are not impacted at all, while even wall street regulators are shut down 100%.

This shutdown will cause the richest to get richer and run around hog-wild while the lowest and middle class go without pay.

I wish I could say "unbelievable" at this point, but who am I fooling?

According to Reid that's the case and if that's true (which I have no doubt it is) it's beyond disgusting.

US post doesn't stop because they have reserve funds I believe (just like the courts system) but am not entirely sure what happens after they're depleted.

I have no problem with planned parenthood (I really don't have an opinion on abortion and couldn't give a fuck about it), but why are my tax dollars going to pay for planned parenthood? Shouldn't those knocked up teens be paying for their own abortions? Just like if I needed to have surgery I'd have to pay for it myself?

Or am I missing something here?

Simply because STUPID Teenagers are the least likely people to be able to pay for childbirth, while at the same time are the same exact demographic of people who are having children too much.

Think of it as a necessary form of socialized medicine. -Like Obamacare Jr. that couldn't have ever been avoided in some form otherwise we'd have even more teenagers dropping babies in dumpsters in scary numbers...
 
Planned Parenthood doesn't pay for abortions. All federal funding goes towards family planning, women's health etc.

Yeah - dropping a couple of Gs now to stop a teen pregnancy is a lot more cost effective than the several hundred Gs keeping their offspring in prison will cost later.
