Transferring WP Site to New Host- EXTREMELY DIFFICULT

BackWPup plugin can do it all. It makes the full zip which includes both files and db.
1. Archive all the damn thing with backwpup.
2. Go to the new hosting, create new db/user.
3. Unpack the archive and upload it to the new host.
4. Upload to the new host their restoring script.
5. Launch this script.
6. Now you have full working copy of your site.
7. Go to your domain registrar and point NS's to the new host.
8. Now while NS are being propagated, all visitors will launch to your site whether they come via old or new NS.

I think this is the best solution for people like you who have no idea. Worked for me in every hosting except fucking IXW.

While I love the idea of a fully automated solution for this, the restore script is nowhere to be found.

Also no mention anywhere on their site of the restore procedure.

Wow, it was there yet yesterday when I posted the link. Apparently they moved to another domain, introduced paid version etc. So grab it from the webarchive: Restore

You know most web hosts offer free site migration when you sign up with them. I've always had their techs do it. I have a reseller account with Namecheap and they moved like 20+ domains over within a day.

What he said. Liquidweb will migrate just about anything for you or restore from your backups, troubleshoot, etc. Well worth the extra $20 a month for fully managed hosting.

I also highly recommend this InfiniteWP - Manage Multiple WordPress Sites It's kind of like ManageWP but cheaper and self hosted. You can monitor all your WP installs, run updates on all of them from one control panel, manage users, install or clone WP, run scheduled backups to Dropbox or Amazon, publish to multiple blogs, manage comments and scope your analytics. It's fantastic.

Thank you for the tip. The screenshots look good, but the guys seem total dumbasses to me as they refuse to provide either demo or trial or moneyback guarantee. I think this well might be what I need but can't be sure until I try myself. But no way I can buy it like this.

Are we looking at the same site? The program is free for you to try it and there's also video and walk through demos on their site.

Yeah the base is free but the addons I need are all paid, namely posting and maybe clone. No need anything else.

Here, let me help -- xMarkPro - Ultimate Blog Network Management

Go with the free package, as it contains all features for the first 30 days. You'll be instantly setup, and once in the admin panel:

1.) Click on the "Advanced Domain Management" on/off switch below the menu.

2.) Domains->Domain Manager menu, and add one existing domain -- the domain you're cloning FROM.

3.) Domains->Server Manager menu, and enter the cPanel details of the hosting account you want the new domain installed on. The new domain can't already exist within WHM / cPanel. It'll be created as either a new account in WHM, or addon domain within cPanel, depending on the server type you select.

4.) Domains->Domain Manager menu, Templates tab and create one template. Fill in anything.

5.) Domains->Domain Manager menu, and create one NEW domain on the server you just added. For the Template field, select "Clone from existing site", and another select list will appear allowing you to select the domain you added in step #2.

Voila, done! It will automatically create the new domain in WHM / cPanel for you on the server you defined in #3, and fully copy over the site to the new domain.

From now on, I'm making it my duty to post something disgusting whenever someone posts something that should be in the newbie section. I ask that others do the same.

Alright, I'll admit I was a clueless newb when I made this thread. But now I have some more important things to consider when transferring sites.

I'm transferring sites on my SEO blog network all to seperate hosting companies.

I would like to install wordpress manually on the new hosting account and then import my files/database. What is the trick to doing it this way?

(The reason I need to do this: some of my old sites were installed with wp on the http:// directory when I need them to be on http://www)

Any tips much appreciated

It's all in the tutorial I posted above. It's 100% spoon fed, so it should be perfect for you.
