The recipe for a $200K per year job

What are you guys doing as far as the pricing?

I know Kimbo is charging $2,000. I think the OP was charging $950?

But is that for a year? Or lifetime?

I was thinking of charging $50/month. That way if the client stops paying or they start ending up on the 2,3,4th page I can terminate the contract.

I really don't like local ad link and I think that someone should bid against them in the search engines via PPC, SMO, and SEO

A few weeks ago I was all upset after discovering local ad link, but then I realized a few things...

+None of their reps understand the technicalities of online marketing, they are just a bunch of mlm sales people. I have talked to 4 of them in my local area who want to recruite me and they are all ignorant dipshits.

+If their sales force can make sales all day to local biz owners without knowing anything about online marketing while carrying a 4 page notebook presentation around, then most everyone on this forum could make a mint if they just went out and talked to local business owners face to face.

+LocalAdStink is a publicly traded MLM, which basically equates to them not existing in a couple of years anyways.

BONUS: Whenever I need leads who are already warmed up to the idea of "marketing online" I go to localadlink.com and cherry pick from their google map. The businesses that are already listed in their shitty directory convert more than 60% of the time for me. I just contact them by phone and politely explain to them how little value they are currently receiving and how much more business they can get by going with me for the same rates Etc.

All of it is so true. Put together a package that includes good SEO, high quality directory, no banner ads, and you'll make a mint off of each place. Most places will tell you that they already have accounts with some places or "have you heard of QMedia?" but it doesn't mean shit if what you offer is straight up better than the competition.

Use what you know about SEO and online marketing to give them a product that's worth more than they'll be paying and they'll sign on quick...figure out how to integrate offline promotions and sign on even quicker for more a month...

Protip: Get your site ranked higher than Yelp, ask the business owner if they've heard of yelp, they'll tell you how they love it and are already on it, then show them the print out showing you ranked a few spots higher than Yelp. They'll forget about their Yelp page right then and there...

I wanted to mention, you need to test your sales presentation on people you know. Make sure you are able to convey clearly, concisely and quickly the benefits of advertising in this manner.

Anyone you know who knows little about the internet will do.

Sure. Why not?

People in small businesses might know NOTHING about the internet. You have the potential to be the first person to explain how it can make them money, and propose yourself as the ideal solution.

It's also good to utilize the socratic method, have them question you, even if the questions are lame and weak, practice answering them. You have to be able to articulate information to the uneducated in a simple manner they can grasp.

I practice conversations all of the time in the mirror. I'm not ashamed to admit to that. Sometimes if you step through what you want to say, you can edit your statements so when you present them in a natural conversation, they come easily and naturally.

Yeah, open ended questions are great, people sure do love to talk about themselves. I honestly believe that through all the sales pitch hype and marketing lingo bullshit, if you simply sit down with someone and show a genuine interest in the marketing of their business, they will usually let their guard down and work with you much faster than if you pitch, mail or bait them into buying.

Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care - sounds cheesy, but it's true.

I'm off to wash the car & won't be back until later ;)

+ rep, good idea. nothing sucks worse than wasting your time talking to some dipshit that doesn't even realize what he's missing out on, even after you've explained it to him like you would a 3 year old child.

You're right Sir.

First thing anyone of us should do when cold calling a business is to say something along the lines of, "Hi, this is TripleP. We can show you how to get better results from your advertising and be more profitable in a very short amount of time. Is that something you're interested in or not?"

The "or not" part is important because it tells you if they are interested in or not! You don't even have to waste 5 minutes talking to someone who is not interested.

And if they aren't interested then move on to the 1,000,000 other businesses.

Now, someone please answer my question about what the rate should be per month. Or if you are charging $1k or more is that per year?

Thanks! :food-smiley-010:

I haven't read this whole thread so I'm not sure exactly what model you're pushing TripleP but I would do some calling around price checking on your competition, if you want to call them that. I know that yellow page ads vary hugely by geographic location (population density) so giving you a what to charge # would really depend on what your future clients are getting raped for on their advertising expenditures now.

Besides, the yellow pages, I'd call the newspapers, local web designers, any existing local portals/directories and just see what everyone is doing. Then find a number somewhere comfortably in that range that makes you a hell of a lot of money and start pushing it.

I really like the OR NOT on your opening, I hate cold calling and haven't had to revert to it yet but if I do, that's my opener.

Thanks!

Well, you have to be careful with this. Successful businesspeople are not the sort that buy Acai Berries. Many don't like to spend time with sales people, and they don't like to be pandered to. You have to be able to make an impact quickly with your presentation, outlining why you are going to add big returns to their business through the value of your service.

Maybe I didn't phrase what I meat to say correctly.

+Just show them you are there to help them through building rapport and listening to them talk about their business. Adjust your offer according to their needs.

+Be concise and don't ramble on and on about your services.
Less words=more power.

+Don't over think this, it's not that hard. Off line business people are clueless for the most part when it comes to what we do. Like Kimboslice has said many times in this thread, "Your job is to help them make more money, thats all." If they still don't understand your offer after your most simplistic explanation go to the next business.

lol

two warrior faags and 5 douchenozzles no one in the industry has ever heard of, priceless!

sad fact is a bunch of the other warrior faags will pay them 2k each to be misled.
