The recipe for a $200K per year job

I have found a great niche in my area and I am going to do a directory for it using esyndicat.

I am looking at coming up with keywords for the directory. How many do you all come up with for your groups/categories for your directories?

And then how many packages/price plans do you offer to customers? I will have a free listing so that I can follow-up and sell packages too but it also looks like I can have 5 or 6 different package types to offer. Is this normal for you all?

Thanks a bunch. I have enjoyed following this thread and I will of course let everyone know how it works out.

I'm thinking about trying this out as well, but why does everyone go with a directory? Why not just buy a 99cent .info for each site? If you're going to be making hundreds off this, then 99 cents won't matter much.
Also, how are you going to get deeplinks for your directory? It would be a lot easier to get links to a regular domain.

Am I missing something?

2008 Passed. Anyone made 200k last year?

well, I did not start from the very beginning of 2008, but I've managed to make almost $50k in 8 months of time.

The concept is good, but there are way too many similar "Seo services" around. Business owners got spammed every day by phone, mail and email so I think the $200k/year is hard to achieve (but not impossible).

Amazing stuff, Vladi! I know it's been a long time since you've posted this... I guess better late than never for me!

Thanks for the tip, I'm thinkin' of trying it. For now, I'm in an affiliate program, but what you wrote here sounds a lot better!

I have been following this thread for about 1 month now. Since I read this post I quit my job and decided to go door to door and sell these services.

It's great, it's fun, and I LOVE IT!

I truly believe this is a salesman game and what you need to separate yourself is Social Proof, Client Testimonials, and Case Studies.

I believe you need to get a record of success under your belt, portray that well in your pitch and on your site and you can land your clients. Face to Face being the easiest. For some this is a return product as some you can close right there on the spot. What i have found is that it's all about systems. Duplicate yourself well in others and you will not have to do the grunt work for long. Learn your business well enough to teach someone else how to do it. If they can do it 80% as good as you that is GREAT!

Anybody in the Los Angeles Area want to hit the field with me? ;)

I'll try not to ADD out and keep you all posted on how it goes for me over the next couple of weeks. I have numerous projects on my plate. :)

im starting to figure out my plan for this, how is everyone sales going? Any tips? im making a business directory and going to local restaurants, businesses, etc and selling spots in the directory, i've got a good feeling about it

1. Add value.

2. Tell the client how much money they would be losing by not going with your service. You can figure this number out by doing some testing.

3. Be PERSISTENT. If someone blows you off and tells you to call back, keep calling back until they sign up or tell you to fuck off. Once they tell you to fuck off on the phone, send them postcards in the mail showing them how their competition is utilizes your services and are making bank.
I mail postcards here:

USPS - Direct Mail <== Don't worry, this ain't a dickroll...

4. Make your shit legit. Seriously. If you are going to do this I suggest you get an 800 phone number and a physical mailing address. You can get these things for very cheap these days. UPS store rents out boxes and the address does not look like a PO box address.

I hate sites that simply hide behind a contact form. No phone number, no email address, no mailing address. You look like a fucking scammer when you do that. You need to look professional if you want people to spend money with you.

Now, keep in mind this assumes that your directory is not shit and you actually can drive traffic to the businesses. If you can't figure out how to do that, start at page one of this thread and read every comment and you will.

This ain't rocket science. Find a directory in the niche you are working. Call the businesses that are listed in it since they are already spending money with a directory. Tell them your directory is better and to prove it you are going to list them in it for free for a month and you'll call them back to gauge the response. Run some longtail targeted ppc campaigns and get them some traffic.

It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Might be interested in a partnership for your area

First post here, 54 year old dog trying to learn this stuff, anybody want to take the time to teach this dog new tricks I have no idea how to do what you layout on this post but as far as selling this outside would be a no brainer outside sales is all I have done all my working days. So go ahead and rail on me if you must I have heard it all can't hurt me but if anyone wants to give me a hand I can teach you sales pitch and hooks to close your prospects...

Hi Javarog --

I am going to start up one of these marketing websites, as soon as I finish a project. Would be needing someone in your area to get on board. You would be the first person on board and there would be a few weeks of working things out. I think it would be worth your while though.

I would more then likely do it all myself, but I will be working from outside the country.

Interested ?? Drop me a PM

Ok I have a question that i cant seem to find an answer for. I am living in Peru. The Peruvians are getting wired and kinda tech savy. Lots having the internet. I have already had a company in lima looking into our SEO services. I cant figure out if Peru or any other South American Country is " country specific " With Google . If they are im golden , if not i will have to stick with the US , which i think will be booger since im not there and this Idea seems to need a physical US presence.

If you can actually add to your customers bottom line, this is really like printing money.

What's up WICKEDFIRE!

Check it out guys. I've been going Door to Door for about a week now. In that past week I have learned what businesses to stay away from and which ones to target. It's all about what kimbo says, If you can actually add to your clients bottom line it's like printing money for yourself and your clients. Plus, referrals will come streaming in.

Which brings me to OUR competition. LocalAdLink and boomj. Those sheisty bastards do almost nothing for their clients, charge them almost nothing, and they are still missing out on 90% of their markets. Which of course makes it easier for us to attain that percentage. I would like you all to note their marketing campaigns and strategies concentrating on the law of averages and selling HOPE. Their showman ship and psychology of sales is superb both to the clients and the sale reps they are trying to recruit. It's like a really great MLM scheme. But they DID provide some really great tips on HOT BUTTONS and BENEFITS to their service for both reps and small business owners. I called and listened and I took some really good notes. 507 726 4110.

Which also brings me to a GREAT idea on how to use their advertising so you can recruit and grow YOUR own businesses. Have you ever noticed in keyword searches almost every business/scheme has a keyword with "scam" inside of it? Why not buy out those keywords for "local ad link" "boom j" or "local ad link scam", let the reps and business owners know how you will ACTUALLY do EXACTLY what they do, include a link on "local ad link" and include their links inside internet avenues where their local marketing and target market hang out at online, except you will attain more market share via the internet. I mean if $60 a month get's some of these business owners (the testimonials on youtube and google videos search results) GREAT awesome results and they only obtain 10% of the market imagine what $300 a month will do and they will get 90% of the market.

I really SPAT upon companies like local ad link.

or...

Neg out and quit. Get day job, and make the good nine to five life. :)

Well, if it does take off their scheme of things will work. We'll see...

What happened to the good old days?

In Conclusion, I really don't like local ad link and I think that someone should bid against them in the search engines via PPC, SMO, and SEO and take their targeted leads to include their SALES REPS and their FUTURE CLIENT/ BUSINESS OWNERS for their own profit and gain.
