The recipe for a $200K per year job

Cool - thanks for the info.

also, what about people who'd order over the phone? I guess you just enter it in yourself (never really worked on that end so I don't know how that sort of processing would work)

Most decent merchant accounts can be cleared for phone orders; just let them know up front that it's something you plan on taking. You can usually do manual entry on a virtual terminal as well.

In some cases there will be volume/seniority requirements for taking phone orders but again, it's generally not hard to find a processor who can provide it.

What about the legal paperwork? Theres gotta be some terms and service agreements they will have to agree to or something right?

Any way to skip the part where the lawyer needs to draft the whole thing up for you?

Here is the best example of a competitor in this business - Local Internet Marketing by OrangeSoda (tons of info you can look for if your really planning on doing this long term)

Found them when searching for "internet marketing for small businesses" on google.

Haven't had the time to actually call them and squeeze information out, but they seem to be a pretty big company. All I know is that their packages start from 100$ a month to 10k+.. talk about crazy.. If anyone wants to call them up and post some info in this thread since I'm just too lazy then I'd appreciate it.

Still messing with my wpmu install since it won't create subdomains for some reason..

Hm, thread seems half dead.. how is everyone doing with this?

I'm working on this still. There are many parts to this, and i've been ticking them off one by one. It's been hard to see the end game at times. I believe this idea works. I just have to keep reminding myself of that.

Hm, thread seems half dead.. how is everyone doing with this?

Been thinking about this idea for about 2 weeks now while getting one of my personal sites going.

However, a few days ago I decided to jump in with both feet, as there is HUGE profit potential in this idea. Alot more than the 100k idea in my opinion.

I've decided to focus on my town first. I know the businesses and area really well, and can probably get some local business owners on board that I know personally.

So far I have picked up a domain I like, created a sub-domain, and installed wordpress on it. Just been working on the header banner tonight, and hoping to create some pages tomorrow.

I'm still in the planning phase of my set-up; I've got way too many irons in the fire, but regardless, this is something I WILL have up and running in about two more months ( yeah i know...i'm slow)

I found another company who has something similiar as well ::::

www.gill-media.com

I'll call those bastards up tomorrow too and give you guys the full run-down.

Yes! I successfully spammed the fucking thread!

Ok..off to watch Burn Notice...

Ok, so after conducting a fair amount of RECON on Orange Soda today I've come up with this conclusion :::

My 8 year old son can do this. (Ok, maybe thats a little too far-fetched)

Anyway, this is how it went down.

Orange Soda, in my opinion, has an excellent name, brand, and USP. I believe that this is a very important concept for anyone trying to do this. So put your creative-thinking cap on people and come up with a unique USP-driven name goddamn it.

Their communication is average - I filled out the info last night and a sales rep called me at around 12:00pm today. However, no e-mails sent to me

I posed as a "no-website having painting contractor in [your city here]" looking for ways to generate leads online.

The sales rep asked a few brief questions about my "business" and then it was * on like donkey kong*

Here's a brief transcription :::

Q: Dumb-ass Painting Contractor - So how many searches do you think I could possibly get per month for my business?

A: Sure, let me pull up one of our "specialized tools" to analyze the current searches on those keywords (painting contractor in [yourcityhere]
* few moments later....Looks like there are approximately 200 searches per month for those keywords

Dumb-ass Painting Contractor - Thats wonderful.

=======
Complete fucking bullshit. I was already looking at the results and there was nothing CLOSE to 200 searches
=======

Q: Me - Do you guarantee placement?
A: Them - No

Q: Me - How long does it take to see results?
A: Them - 4-6 months, sometimes faster

Q: What do your SEO services consist of and how do you plan on getting
me to the top of the SERPS?
A. Submitting to relevant directories, building relevant back-links, meta
tag incorporation, etc There are other companies out there who
practice black-hat strategies ( went on to explain that) but if you go
with a company like that your site will most likely be banned from the
search engines.

Q: Me - What are the costs?
A: Them - For a site like yours, we would charge $100 monthly SEO fee.
However, if you'd like to generate more traffic by targeting
more cities within your state we can do that as well. This will
bring you even more traffic. The costs would then be $300
monthly.

Q: Me - How about PPC?
A: Them - Sure, we'll ass-rape you and take every last penny you got.
We suggest you start with a $300 monthly ad budget. Our
managment fee is 30% of your desired budget, so $90 monthly
+ $100 setup fee.
If your monthly ad budget is over $500, we will only charge
20%, over $1,000, 15%

Q: Me - Is there anyway to track vistors to my page, etc?
A: Them - You can log in at anytime to our dashboard
control panel on our site to view all stats, etc.

Q: Me - Will you design my website?
A: Them - We don't do any design here, but we will provide you with a
basic template for $17 a month which includes hosting.

Q: Me - So you don't provide any custom work?
A: Them - One of our affiliate partners can provide you with this, their
name is Logoworks.

==========

Ok, so to make this as short as possible, as far as what they can do for you is average. Its average SEO work...nothing special at all. They just have a very decent system in place. They have a marketable product and a system set-up.

Two things I didn't like. After I opted into their system, I wasn't sent a "pre-sell" welcome message. Neither was I sent an e-mail after I spoke with them.

After I told the guy I would think about it and get back to him on Monday...he just said...ok.

Thats not a salesman. I would have said : I certaintly understand not wanting to rush into this, however we are running a promotion for new clients today only. If you sign up today, we will waive the set-up fee,
your first month will be 50% off, and we will give you a free opt-in form
for use on your website. (something like that)

There was a bunch of other questions I could have/should have asked but didnt have too much time

^^^^Thanks for taking the time to go through that. Lol at 4-6 months, thats a looooong time.

I'm getting pumped about this now. Not to sure if I should go ahead and just set up a main directory brand and promote that, or do what orangesoda is doing and set up a online marketing brand, and then promote a bunch of different services....

What do you think?

EDIT: Looks like the only thing of value that they provide in-house that I couldn't is the tracking. Hmmmmm...maybe we could somehow give clients access to the google analytics for their site or page?

Forgot to mention that for their basic seo plan, they charge a $100 setup fee.

@ LiftBigEatBig - You should do whatever you feel like would be best for you, whether it be a highly brandable directory or create a highly branded one-stop design shop. I'm going for the one-stop shop myself. Adds more value. Plus, as Vladi/KinmboSlice mentioned before, I will create optimized template sites for my niches that already are ranked, then contact my potential clients. That way its a lot easier to sell, no need to wait 4-6 months, plus you can collect ginormous fees upfront.

I'm still waiting on Strategic Internet Marketing - Search Engine Optimization (SEO) By Gill-Media - your professional solution to call, but I think this one review post of Orange Soda should sum it up, if not I can post those results too...just let me know.

I am in no way, shape, or form a programmer but I believe you can find one to develop a dashboard for your website exclusively for the client. It can include traffic stats and anything else you want in there. Yeah, its gonna costs a little money but you'll be better off. Its all about value for the client as KimboSlice said
