"The Interview" Scrapped. The Terrorists Win.

Why dismiss them violently acting out over a petty joke at their leader as an impossible act when they have a history of making ridiculous shit happen? Even more so than any other country in existence.

First of all, I'm rejecting the very idea that North Korea is behind it because the entire idea of that is ridiculous for every reason that's already been stated, and then some. And even if you believe they were behind it, why wouldn't you reject the threat of violence based on the fact that they have never shown a willingness to follow through with anything like that?

This shit makes as much sense as claiming that the massive protests and killings of US personnel in Libya on 9/11 (pure coincidence of course) was because of a random video posted on Youtube that had 311 views.

nobody ever said movie theatres were going to get blown up.

Yeah ok.

Ok, it was script kiddies, annoyed to the max that Sony is releasing a comedy film. Great work Sherlock, the world can close all those silly police investigations and the CIA can stop accusing China of helping with espionage. Nobody else would gain from closing down the film studio that disrespected Dear Leader.

I assumed they weren't behind it from the start. Still do.

Conversely their reaction to this movie could be more than just barking or ignoring it. Sure there's a pattern to their passive threats of violence but the boy who cried wolf

It's clear the despite your condescending know it all attitude you barely have the ability to read let alone form coherent arguments.

Maybe you should spend less time talking about things you clearly have no knowledge of and more time on your knees.

Oh I still owe you $5.

You have input nothing informative to the thread and probably never do, got to love the ignore feature.

It's an economic decision and makes perfect sense.

North Korea threaten Sony, who don't want to comply, so they hack their private emails and release them.

Sony still doesn't want to comply so the same people who managed to do a super-hack threaten to blow up theaters that show the movie.

US government, Sony etc. know full well they wont go through with it.

HOWEVER, Joe public doesn't want to take the risk, so doesn't go to the theater to see the film, so numbers are shit and the film fails and doesn't continue showing.

Alternatively Sony pull the film themselves and come up with a plan to maximise revenue.

I also have to agree that Fierce is a babbling moron. Also why would North Korea try to extort a film studio? Sounds more like scriptkiddies who are trying to take the heat off themselves since their extortion attempt was a huge fail.

The hack had nothing to do with the fucking movie!

The original emails never mentioned the fucking movie, they demanded money.

It was only after several days when the media blamed North Korea that the hackers started talking about the movie and even then they never fucking mentioned it by name.

The people who did the hack are disorganized dipshits with to much time on their hands.

Fuck me, some of you people...

You win. I don't understand why people are crossing the movie with the hack.

It's like the sheep just go completely retarded and forget the past when something else happens.

There were people all over twitter saying they didn't want the movie released because it would promt more aggression with NK.

Media spins it as NK hacked sony... then for some reason want to terrorize the US movie theaters? Fucking funny what people believe.

Just like the US is trying to help Cuba.... :2drinkspit::2drinkspit::2drinkspit::2drinkspit::2drinkspit::2drinkspit::2drinkspit:

I don't think it's ridiculous to suggest that NK are behind the leaks (they react very strangely and extremely to any criticism of their country) but it's definitely ridiculous to take their threats of blowing up cinemas as genuine. That's clearly not going to happen.

You can say that again.

I firmly believe that Sony gave into the hackers (I refuse to call them terrorists) for ONE reason only: to avoid further information being leaked. Possible guesses from me on information not leaked yet: sexuality of their marquee stars, casting couch secrets, covered up child sex abuse, documentation of tax evasion.

lol, Obama is in on it now in a press conference calling the Sony decision to pull 'The Interview' a mistake

And I can see either theory here being plausible. And the FBI has just officially blamed NK for the attack - not that the gov is competent or trustworthy.

Uh oh just learnt from this thread that NK has nothing to do with that... But it's funny picture, let it hang here.

.

Is it just me, or does it seem more plausible that this is simply Sony pulling some strings, and covering their ass? Getting hacked by a few 14 year old kids in their mom's basements probably doesn't do much for your public relations image, but if you turn that into a "coordinated, advanced attack by North Koreas advanced cyber warriors", then ok, that sounds better for plausible deniability.

Besides, isn't Sony known for brilliant security practices like plain text passwords and credit card numbers? And what happened to the stolen administrator account? Probably some Sony administrator's kid.

This is how propaganda and PsyOP's are implemented. IMHO there is no way in hell North Korea had a damn thing to do with this (other than being used for cover)

Why not? It would seem that the virus used to do most of the damage is reported to being able to be purchased on the black market. This would fit a profile of a country like North Korea that is not known as a technologically superior county. This is not something like Stuxnet which was state crafted for a specific purpose.

Ok, let's for a moment say it was "hacktavists", why would they focus so intently on this particular film - it only offends North Koreans?

Because it's a ploy. Sony is in the business of making $100s of millions by making up story lines.

Who knows, maybe the threats to take The Interview down were real. If that's the case, it's probably because many hackers are anarchists, and many anarchists truly believe their the new age freedom fighter. Many have such hatred for the US govt and its policies, they sometimes are sympathetic to NK, and sometimes even favor NK policies. That's probably more plausible than the "advanced NK cyber army".

NK always wants to fight other countries, and if they even get a hint of someone about to attack, they try to go to the UN and try to work it out, its a cycle.
