For the past two weeks I've been getting unsolicited emails of blog article updates on industrypace.com. I never signed up to receive emails from industrypace.com but yet here I am getting emails every time he posts a new article.
Since I am not an anti spam zealot and since the email is technically compliant with CAN-SPAM, I didn't make a big stink about it. Hell I allowed the emails to keep coming in. Why not, it's related to the industry I am in right?
Until I decided to check out his website and realized that Pace seems to two tiers of rules. One tier for himself, and one for everyone else.
He seems to love accusing companies of having fraudulent and unethical business practices which in many cases may be true. But some of this things he has a problem with is borderline: For example claiming that all rebill offers are fraudulent, in particular attacking Jesse Willms and his Acai rebills.
Now he is also connecting Jesse Willms with SwipeBids & SwipeAuctions and claiming these online auctions are scams. Gambling maybe, but scams?
He even goes on to say that if a company uses offshore Visa only processing they could be a scam because "This is a good sign of a scam, when a company can’t get one of thousands of processors and credit card companies to work with them".
Well then, I guess Visa loves working with scammers according to Pace.
That wasn't enough for me to get upset though. The guy has a right to have his opinion, even if he is shoving it down my inbox. I can always unsubscribe right?
I scrolled down and noticed the following disclaimer on the bottom of his site: "Comment Policy 8/1/10: It the policy of IndustryPace.com and Pace Lattin to not edit any comments for content or opinion, or to restrict the posting of comments unless they are obvious advertisements or spam or attack a protected class or group. "
Okay sounds reasonable. I'll go ahead and post a comment and the fact that he's emailing me when I never subscribed to his website and that it seems to be violating the spirit of his strong advocacy against unethical business practices.
So I posted the comment and so far he hasn't approved it yet. To be fair though, it hasn't been a full 24 hours.
What do you guys think of him? Maybe I'm being too harsh here, but something is "off" about Pace.
