Ayo, so I finally finished up school and what not and I'm looking to take maybe a month or so to myself and travel a bit. Europe's not really my thing and I just had a trip there last summer, so I figure I'll check out Thailand. Since most of my friends are too broke to go or have that job shit going on it looks like I'll be on my own for the most part.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I'm not into night clubs/ladyboys, so I'll probably be going there for the beach, nature, relaxing, maybe some spa detox shit (I need it) or maybe some kind of Buddhist Spiritual Retreat :338:.

Anyone got the 4/11 on this place?

I've spent quite a bit of time on Koh Phangan, I prefer it to Koh Samui. If you stay away from Haad Rin - the party beach - you will be able to find somewhere decent. There is a detox/retreat place that has been going for years called the Sanctuary, though I have never been there myself. Koh Tao is nearby and is also worth considering.

The coastlines of the continent itself are both fucked over with pollution in a way westerners can't really become comfortable with. If you want some beach time; Head for the islands, especially the furthest out ones, and my favorite too is Koh Samui. (Because it has everything on it.)

Upcountry has no beaches of course, but there is lots of nature and sanctuary in most of the country outside of BKK. If you like nature away from the beaches, spend time in Chang Mai (Stay at The Chedi) and definitely visit Doi Inthanon. That whole park is awesome, from the Wats to the views to the people, etc.

There are at least 3 ppl here on WF in Thailand right now, & more go seasonally. Wintertime is the good season to be there, so you might want to organize a meetup.

Spent almost a year there this year, I'm in Vietnam now.

You should check out Phuket since it's a beach that's very foreign friendly.

If you want less touristy than check out Hua Hin.

If you're going to spend a few weeks then it's worth trying to get an apartment for a month than stay in a hotel room.

An alternative to Thailand you should check out is Indonesia. I haven't been myself.

HALLO HANSUM MAN. WHERE YOU FROM?

I'm starting to think all the dickrolls have embedded themselves in the deep subconscious of Wickedfire because you are some Thailand-lovin motherfuckers.

lol

Last year I spent over a year there.

God is this difficult. But it probably is anywhere... google "mrroomfinder"

BluAff: u travel alone often? How old are you? Hostels/tourist areas can be indispensable for avoiding loneliness and banging hot foreign girls regardless of your budget. It's like a poon tasting plate.

Indochina is the world's biggest dollar store.

Pick up some basic thai on the way over. Not because you need it - you don't - but because the locals will love you.

Lonely planet's guide IIRC calls out ~3 monasteries that take foreigners for a week-month-year at a time for just a dollar or whatever a day. One of them is in the jungle on its own island.

Have fun. I'll be here (and am now) as well. PM me if you want.

I have been working on contacts in Thailand because i hope to retire before i am 35 so i want to move to thailand or some area of south east asia in the next 7 years and start a small business while i am there and live like a king on a small amount of money.
the economy is so amazing in the south east asia region.
my advice is go to expat exchange or any expat site and talk to some people who have been living their for a long period of time they can help you.
let me tell you most countries in this region you can live like a king on 1500 US a month

Did the exact same thing about 3 years ago. My friends were broke and I wanted to travel. I'd never been to Asia and I heard great things about Thailand, so I had to check it out.

I went for 1 month by myself. I spent maybe a day in Bangkok, then got on a plane and went to Koh Samui for a week weeks, then to Koh Pha Gnan for pretty much the rest of the trip.

They're both islands, full of foreigners, mostly travellers are they're really laid back. Tons of night life, great restaurants and some awesome street food too if you dont mind that. Theres also a ton of other things to do, it just depends on what you like. Prices in restaurants were about $4 USD - $10USD for a meal and the street vendors are honestly like $1-$2.

It's an incredible place to visit. Have fun and be safe.

Show me how you live on $1500 US in bangkok like a king. Rent is higher than that if you dont want to live like a rice farmer.
You guys are delusional. A decent car here costs 3-4x the amount then it does in the US..

look it up type in cost of living in cambodia, loas, thailand, ect.
where are you from russia? i am not debating the russian economy.
when i say king i mean you can live well but i do not know what your standard of living is like if yo uare some guy who needs to roll around in a mercedes with a rolex watch on at all times and new italian suits then perhaps it is not the place for you but if you are a middle class person who can make 1000-2000 a month and shop local then you will do good

Hey Bro.. I heard that the Asian chicks love Whites. But do they like Asians foreigners too ?? I am asking coz I am Asian too :-) and I am planning to visit there without the wife :D

PS: I do OK with gals in general..

Truth. I've been living in Thailand for 10 years. Sure it's cheap if you live like a peasant. But anything and everything that is a step up from that is *more* expensive than in the west. Cars are 3x as Offshore said. Electronics are all higher price. You can get a plate of fried rice for US$1 but when you get bored of that prepare to pay dearly for a crappy pizza and if you want a decent steak you'll have to search high and low and pay through the nose. Decent bottle of wine will run you at least $30 when it would cost you less than $10 in the U.S.

Hua Hin is like the most boring place on earth.. only old retired people and full of bangkokians on the weekends. Phuket is full of russian scum (oh the irony) but has plenty of beaches, hookers and a real city to offer. Samui is more laid back and should suit you best. Bangkok is just like any other big city in asia. If your not a total douchebag like some of these other "ballin" affiliates you wont end up with a ladyboy licking your shaft or some shit like that. Theres plenty of better places than thailand.. people only come here for the easy girls or because they are poor. 90% of the so called webmasters that live here are broke as fuck and thats exactly why they live in in shitty ass places in thailand.
Go to Singapore, South Korea.. way more fun than thailand.

Seriously, Singapore ? way more fun than Thailand? Where did you get that idea from?

Yeah, tired of people who thinks they can live in 3rd world like a kings with $500-$1500 or so.... never been there definitely. It's just OK living. Try to buy some decent car (not mercedes, let's talk mazda even), rent decent place (not villa), buy some food with that (healty one, not street shit, even to home) and a bit of party (just dancing, disco, etc).... LOL simply LOL

You will not be starving.... but you need same amount of money disregarding some exceptions as in US/EU to live like a king in 3rd world. Agreed with offshore didn't even read his post till now, just geomark

It's cheaper to be poor in 3rd world than in US = 100% true

There is no middle class almost in 3rd world, there are rich and poor. That's why it called 3rd world btw - explanation to those who are plain stupid;)

So now we go from king to middle class person and from $1500 to $2000.. your delusional and full of shit. If you want to live comfortable you need the same kind of money like in every other country. Don't fool yourself.
I have a permanent residence in thailand so i know what i am talking about :moon:

my perception is different from yours being i live in a 3rd world nation you asshole!!!. im from the west indies.
if i take my money to the USA i will live shitty on 1500 a month.
I am looking to go to a place where i can be comfortable without machine gun fire outside my window and the filth of what i have to deal with.
you are obviously some kind of elitist rich boy and i am not from your world of extreme luxury of jewlery, shopping sprees, fancy cars, and spending my free time laughing and mocking the poor and middle class while i sit on my over fed ass laughing at less fortunate class. i am happy to maintain a comfortable middle class lifestyle and 1500 hundred in south east asia goes further there than id does in any caribbean island or north america.

Anything that has to be imported to this country is ridiculous expensive, way more expensive then in EU/US.

but if you want to buy clothes from cambodia and street food everyday so is it cheap as shit.

Last time we went for stake it ended up costing $200 per head and it wasn't even that good stake.

I have given up on getting really good western food here.

To be fair some things are much cheaper in Thailand, like:

Unskilled labor - a full time servant/maid/gardener is $200 to $300 a month
Medical care - it's world class at the private hospitals and you can just pay out of pocket as the cost is less than insurance premiums in the U.S.
Taxis - $1 flag drop and cheap to anywhere in Bangkok (different story in other cities)

You can live well on $1500 a month, depending how you spend your money. You just need to adjust your thinking about many things that are considered luxuries here so are priced accordingly.

how much does a decent 1 bedroom apartment go for with current and running water? can you get one for 350 us or less monthly? and i am told local fruits and vegtables fish meat ect is very cheap as well. i was told a sing person can spend 100 us on food and have more than they need for a month. public transportation i was told it very cheap and taxis are only slightly more costly than they are where in live.
these are the things i am worried about. i was talking to a youth from england who finds some decent bootleg shoes and clothes.
