I'm not one to brag (oh wait yeah i am) but this weekend i caught my personal biggest batray ever and thought id share the pics with you guys

This was one of the toughest fuckin battles i've ever had. I caught this fish (51" wingspan by the way) at the very end of a 1/4 mile pier and ended up having to beach the mother fucker an hour later(fight was from 1am-2am). About 3/4 of the way down the pier i had him tiered and at the surface, we got him in a big crab net(thats how we always land big fish) but the son of a bitch was way to heavy for 3 grown men to pull him up. Estamate wieght of the fish is 12-130#s. We ended up draggin his ass the rest of the way to the shore in the net(which was hard as fuck, had to climb around bathrooms on rickity boards and shit) So much fun, such a workout, and the best part was we released the beast, which was somehow still alive after a valient fight, to go make babys

Thats an ugly son of a bitch.
Pretty damn sweet though, how common is it to catch one of those things out in CA?

yeah you can eat them, people make fake scallops out of their wings with cookie cutters, ive heard its not too bad. Me on the other hand, i hardley ever keep anything i catch, in it for the sport, thankfully that night we had a succesful C,P+R(catch, picture, and release)

ugly!? i find those things so freakin cute, but they're slimy as hell. They deff arent the most common fish, but they are caught up and down the coast a lot, one of the funnest fights you can get from a pier, they run like hell and dont stop till you tire uhm out. I've personally caught 4+ batrays in one fishing session so i guess they're pretty common.
 
it looks mighty tasty to me. Personally, if i can't eat it with some hot sauce, I don't want to bother it.

That thing's forehead is freaking HUGE. I thought it was a rock you had placed the ray on when you flipped it over. O.o

Sweet photos. I love looking at rays. Snorkeled with stingrays off St. Kitts several years ago. They are so graceful. I'm glad it didn't die.
 
Good catch man. Id like to see the pix of the one that killed irwin. i hear they found it and slaughtered it after stabbing him.
